Edit: LiMaa has managed to negotiate a deal with dell for this monitor that will bring it down to $510 that will go live on 5pm AEST but its only 500 units so be fast

First time posting so be gentle.

Far from the best price but the monitor has finally returned to the Dell store after you all bought so many that it's been unavailable in Australia for near on 2 months. RTINGS.com preferred it over the famous LG 27GL850 which is going for around $750-$800 so it could still be considered a bargain. Do bear in mind that some individuals have reported that Dell may have another deal for this particular monitor planned for mid-October which would be similar to the previous deal that brought it down to nearly $500 after coupons.

Just got mine this week. Emails look great on it… :)

    • +9

Yeah if it drops to the mid-low 500s mark again I'm buying a second one of these.

Had mine for about 3 weeks now it's great

    • +3

It's soooo bright!!! First time Ive had to consider 2 settings. 1 for work, 1 for gaming. 5 minutes of emails and my eyeballs were burning from the brightness.

      • +1

        DAAAAAARRRRK MODE.

        • +3

I am here. What do you want, robot?

    • +1

Cool, do you still get spam.

      • +5

not after it burned his eyeballs. such a simple solution!

      • I've never seen spam look so good before!

    • +4

Once you email at 165Hz, you can't ever go back!
      Source: Got mine last week.
Oh, the colours are alright too. Bonus blue backlighting for that extra RGB speed. Oh, just B.

    • Same.

Happy with it so far, mostly used for work and not any gaming. I also have the old TN version of this as well which has been pretty good.

  • +13

What happened to the Dell rep honouring the same price as before for OzB peeps?

    • +4

The same question here. How comes last time $500ish and this time is … what? @Balabink

      • -4

        It was $599.

        • +1

          It was $507

    • Was a friend of a dell rep I believe…

    • +31

We haven't organised a new deal yet. They've just restocked it on their site and op posted it as a deal. Working on it. :)

      • +1

Any estimates on when it will be? I've been wracking over whether to buy the Viewsonic or wait for a good deal on this for the past few week

        • +1

I'm not sure what your previous question was? I'm trying to get it by early - mid Oct, there is a chance it could be late Oct though.

          • +1

@LiMaaa: I jokingly commented whether anybody from Dell would be willing to hook me, the OP, up with the previous deal

          • @LiMaaa: Looks like by that time my 27 2k would be arrive d. Was thinking of getting 27 4k and cancel the current order. Anyway I sure will be happy with the 2k. Thanks

            • +9

@ce5himm: I received both the dgf and 27" 2k, tbh they are both amazing monitors and suit really well next to each other so I'm super happy with my purchase.

Edit: So for anyone interested in this, if you can't wait get it at this price otherwise deal is confirmed around 20th Oct @ $499*

*we can never be certain on price but it will likely match previous deal price or very similar.

      • +1

Also my previous question still stands

      • -3

Sounds good - if I purchase it now will Dell honour refunding the difference if there is change in pricing?

        • +9

I don't think so, it's a deal when it's a deal, wouldn't be fair to others who wait.

          • @LiMaaa: Will there 2k or 24cm be included in Oct sale? Thank in advance.

  • First post, so BE GENTLE TO ME OR ELSE.

    I kid, good price!

  • Worth every penny.

    • +6

It's been out of stock for quite some time and I don't know if we will ever see that price again though.

      • -4

Alternative theory: sales prices will remain high while they don't have spare stock, then will drop again when they get a decent chunk of stock again (partially because they'll need to clear their warehouse eventually).

The value proposition is terrible without the discount, and you'll start seeing that more and more as new monitor models seed into the market from now until the end of the year.

    • +4

Not sure where you've been, but this monitor was sold out as soon as it was released, because of OzB. We purchased their entire stock, so much so they had to manufacture more to fit the order.

This will never be that price again (for at least a year or two).

      Welcome to OzB?

      • OzRestock, apparently.

    • Not sure if you even bothered reading OP's second sentence?

      • -6

I did, and when you're paying $200 more, try to seek a different monitor, because it's almost worth importing them with that kind of price increase.

Don't get sucked into paying $600+ for a 1440p 144Hz/165Hz monitor in 2020. The starting price for that resolution and refresh rate is $350, and this monitor's competitors typically sit between $350-$500 when stock is more plentiful. This is OzBargain, not OzRestock or OzMSRP.

Chances are this 'deal' is unopened returns from the last deal.

        • Not of your hunting for a 3080 atm.. even retail is amazing given shortage 🤣

          • @vash5: Huge demand globally, shit suppliers locally. Next month should be much better, but there'll obvious be some latent demand from launch to deal with.

    • +1

The price you're referring to is the usd price, not aud. The regular price is on par with the LG850gl @ $800-$850. :)

      • -4

They're literally the only basic 1440p 144Hz monitors pitched at $700+, even with supply shortages. Smile all you like, it's a dumb deal.

Cheers for driving up prices because dumb, and be sure to shake the hand of someone less fortunate as you convince yourself of the value for money.

        • +8

How are they basic? They offer everything you would want in a good 2k gaming monitor. This isn't Oz Restock, the only reason these deals have been reoccurring is because I have been working my butt off to work with Dell to get deals for the community and Dell is actually listening to their consumer and filling the market gap. So I'm not sure how that drives up price, in reality it shows Dell will sell a lot more at a more competitive price point?!

I'm not sure which competitor has 2k 27" ips 165hz monitors with the same panels as the LG850gl @ $350 or even $500, but these are deals, if you don't agree, simply don't purchase.

If you're in the market for something cheaper the Dell s2721d 75hz 2k IPS was only $239 and that's an amazing price for any 2k ips in the current market. :)

          • -3

@LiMaaa: WCG 144Hz is the tier above entry level 144Hz, with the next tier being FALD or 240Hz. Viewsonic have a relatively similar model going for $400 on sale, $475 regular, just not as good across the VRR range.

            https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/search?q=S2721DGF

Tell me how the deals you've been swinging stand wildly apart from what I just linked? It's competing with the LG 27GN850, which has an MSRP of USD $450… and for the love of all that's still good in the world, it's not 2K…

Maybe just pretend I'm standing to applaud your incredible effort, and enjoy your life, I guess.

  • +13

Anybody at Dell willing to hook the OP up with the previous $507 price tag?

    • +3

Do it and I will buy two

    • +1 for this suggestion

  • This is a indication that the stock will be available on eBay soon

    • +2

At an inflated price but don't worry you'll be able to get it for 21% off sale 😆

  • +5

I'm deeply filled with regret on not picking up the original deal.

  • -2
    • +9

      Welcome to the conversation…

  • +5

Got one from previous deal - amazing monitor! Hope the previous price returns

    • Would have jumped on it instantly if it was the same price as last deal.

  • +1

This or xiaomi 34 ultra wide

    • I've been deliberating on the same question for the last 2 weeks

    • I have been looking at the 27GL850 for a while and wanted to grab this one when it was posted a month ago. Thank god I didn't because all I can think of now is 34" ultrawide, particularly the alienware one or the LG 34GN850. The xiaomi 34" UW will have the same height as this but wider. PPI is pretty much the same. Difference being one is a VA panel where as the other is an IPS as well as the difference in refresh rate. It also depends on what you want to do with the monitor too. Some games don't support ultrawide (e.g. valorant, overwatch).

      • I had the X34P ultra wide, hated it. swapped it for 3 of these monitors. no regrets.

        • What's wrong with it? x34p is about 2 years old if I recall correctly. The general consensus on both AW3720DW and 34GN850 seems to be good and better than the x34p.

          • +5

@Dentom: Just multi-tasking one 1 screen is so difficult. Trying to use Photoshop, and view a reference image, was a pain.
Also, nothing really supports Ultra Wide screens. (like the games you mentioned)

I do think in the next 6 to 12 months, widescreens will be really popular with the new RTX cards.

            • +1

@NegEveryone: ahhh yes, I'm already happy with the way I multitask on my 27" 16:9, so the extra real estate will be welcomed. With gaming, thankfully warzone supports ultrawide hence I decided to take a sharp turn into the ultrawide land.

      • +1

A side by side comparison would highlight the response time as the main difference
in PQ which results in ghosting and smearing on the VA panel.

      • I have an 27GL850 nice monitor. Probably would have waited for this one instead of paying $850.

    • I have both side by side and honestly, this. The Dell just feels like butter in games but the xiaomi is still a great pick for sure

  • My 3 dell monitors from last deal finally arrived this week.
I think I went full ozbargain mode, and should've only got 2…

    • Sell me one <3

    • +6

I've had a constant daily stream of ozbargain parcels from Dell monitors, Lego sets, wd drives etc Might need to freeze the credit card

      • My room looks like an amazon shop….Building new PC, 3 monitors, desk.

    • I would be willing to take one off your hands

  • +3

at that price, definitely get the Viewsonic VX2758-2KP-MHD instead.

im using both the viewsonic and the dell. they are pretty much the same. colours look better on the viewsonic but that might be because I havn't found a colour setting I am happy with for the dell.

    • +2

Mate just got the Viewsonic a couple of weeks ago, only running a 1060 at the moment but GSync compat seems to work fine so at least frame drops arent as noticable!

    • +1

Same here, I have the Viewsonic too and that holds up really well. I feel like the screen is a bit whiter too on the Viewsonic, and the Dell isn't as white. Response time differences aren't distinguishable too, so its far better value. The viewsonic is near useless on the ergonomics side though. I bought the Dell S3220DGF to go alongside this dell one, and having used it, its a fair bit better on contrast and for some games, much prefer it to an ultrawide, and now I use it over the s2721dgf. Has a bit of ghosting though… but can't notice it mid game.

  • Is this VESA mountable?

    • Manual says yes.

      • Thanks, weird they don't display that information anywhere on that page.

    • +2

Got it from the last deal and have it mounted!

      • Which VESA mount are you using?

        • Just a cheapo, don't know the model though 100 X 100 mount.

  • Drop the price a bit and I will grab two

    • +4

why would you need 2 high refresh monitors? unless you plan to use it on two seperate pcs in distinct locations. If you use it side by side, why not just get 1 and 1 low refresh rate to save money (as I assume you will only game on the high refresh one)

      • -1

Not everyone will buy this monitor for gaming. I also plan to buy two

        • +2

what other reason would you need the 165 hz refresh rate?

          • @k1ng: Some people have issues with stuttering and/or fps drops while gaming and a video is playing on the secondary 60Hz monitor.

Having two monitors run at the same refresh rate fixes that even if it is an expensive solution.

        • +2

Can't you get a nicer 4k monitor for a similar price or just a nice 1440p for a lot less? The 144hz premium would be quite wasteful if it isn't going to be used for gaming.

          • -4

@gamesdead: You guys are dreaming. Obviously you only look at gaming monitors. Here is another Dell monitor that is not gaming, but he similar specs except for it being 60hz. It actually costs more than this gaming monitor, hence why I’m looking at the gaming one. And 2, because I need two monitors as I have a lot of apps open at the same time.
            https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-ultrasharp-27-monitor-w…

            • +2

@PleasureMe: It makes absolutely no sense to have two gaming monitors side by side unless you are playing on both at the same time in which case you should get an ultrawide.

If you want to multitask like you claim, make one of the monitors a 4k 60 hz which will look so much nicer at 27 inches and has more screen real estate for window snapping and can comfortably display smaller text.

This way you get best of both worlds.

Two the same is like having a spanner set with every single spanner the same size and shape.

              • +1

@Koppeldread: Some people like high refresh even for desktop usage, and I've found if you mix and match them you can run into some problems

              • @Koppeldread: I disagree. It makes perfect sense to me. I'm already using a 32-inch 1440 monitor than has plenty of real estate, but it's just not the same as having two separate monitors. Nothing beats having an app on one screen with the knowledge that nothing is going to open over the top of it like what always happens when you're limited to one physical screen. So I will be ditching my 32-inch and replacing with 2 x 27-inch. "Gaming" in my opinion is just a marketing term. I'm not a gamer and don't need to be to use a "gaming" monitor, router, keyboard, mouse or any other peripheral.

                • @PleasureMe: People who say this monitor looks nice are upgrading from dinosaur monitors. This monitor should only be used for gaming due to the refresh rate. For general browsing, editing, or anything that requires good colours should look else where.

                • @PleasureMe: I agree that two monitors is better than one ultrawide for multitasking. I just don't see the point of having two of the same monitor. Have different monitor specs means there are so many different things you can achieve. You could have a high response rate monitor for gaming and a high pixel density colour accurate monitor for photo editing or watching media. If you are not a gamer I cannot imagine why you would be paying a huge premium for a 165 hz refresh rate and low response times unless you are an absolute fetishist for smooth mouse tracking or something. Anything from the Dell U series would be better.

            • +1

@PleasureMe: I have always been using two same size monitors to multitask. One for 27" gaming/work and one 27" 4k for multitasking and movies. Owned multiple 1080p/1440p (144hz) and 4k monitors that are far cheaper than this dell deal, never had any issues. Like you said, it is perfect for productivity and multitasking. If you really need a second 1440p dell monitor, why didnt you just get the Dell S2721D for more than half the price? The difference in performance is neglible if you factor in the cost. You are literally paying $270-$500 extra for the 144hz and a slightly better screen, The 144hz is completely wasted on your second monitor for multitasking as you won't be able to see it on movies, applications and email checking. There are PLENTY of nicer looking non 144hz screens for the same price or less. Don't just check the "RRP" of a website and assume that's the only price of a similar spec monitor. Heck, my two used 4k monitors were less than $500 combined. Both would look better than this 1440p gaming monitor for "desktop use".

              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/566872

      • +4

Symmetry, ocd, aesthetics. I could never have two different monitors next to each other. I'm also going to buy two.

        • Agree with that. But if they had the same monitor just with a different panel I'd consider it. No idea if that's a thing or not

        • -1

          That is just silly.

  • +1

didn’t they say that they were going to honour the previous deal sometime in October?

Not sure if I should get it now… don’t really wanna miss out on it again.

    • +1

      They started coming this week.

    • Just got mine this week. Playing overwatch as we speak. Excelllent screen.

      • +1

Hahah I am very tempted now!

  • +1

Dam cant beleive it was $500, maybe it will come back down :) be a nice upgrade, but ill keep waiting :D Cant get away from IPS panels :) Just wish the Dell's would use a claw stand not the massive base one they have on these series :/

    • It will definitely come back in the next dell 20% off eBay sales. Sometimes in October I believe

      • I don't know about that man. I reckon low 600 will be where it's at.

    • Any advantage on claw stand?
