  • my relative who "organic food" obecessed would like a no plastic kettle. is this possible?

    • +1

Generally all kettles will have a filter/mesh on them… of which the surround is made of plastic.
They might need to find an old stove top kettle and go that way.

      • yeah its high grade plastic but here its stove top metal ketal

    • +1

if you have a look at the breville glass kettles, there is no plastic and uses a metal filter instead with predominantly metal/glass body

    • Tell them to buy a handmade Simplex kettle. That'll see them right.

  • Good one.. nice price!

PS: After a few months I do see a bit of rust showing up on the inside bottom of the kettle.

    • +1

It's not rust skinny, it's mineral deposit aka "limescale", easily removed with some citrus skin or similar.

Had a similar multi-temp Breville kettle (3 actually) which sadly all failed over time. Got my money back eventually. Daughter has the same Breville smart kettle which has performed faultlessly for years. Might look at this if reviews are good.

  • Personally I'm avoiding Russell Hobbs - never had good experiences with anything I've tried in the past, from memory I've used I think 4 appliances that have all failed prematurely while taking the same standard of care that my other items have had without issue.

  • I've had this kettle for over a year. The only issue I have is that it does get a bit of rust on the inside every now and then (which is easily removed).

Apart from that it's a great kettle.

    • Rust or calcium? If it's the latter it can easily be removed by boiling 1/3 white vinegar solution from time to time.

      • +1

It's probably calcium, just looks like rust. I just drop in half a lemon and boil the kettle and that gets rid of it.

    • are you using the descaling stuff?

    • +2

I boil sliced lemon to clean.

  • Great kettle I got it in the last deal and I've been using it many times daily

The only gripe I have is it doesn't have a temperature display which I was used to on my old kettle but that was a much more expensive kettle so can't complain for the price

  • +4

I wanted a kettle with temp controls and chose the $49 Target one after seeing some bad reviews about Russel Hobbs one. No issues so far.

    • This looks like a carbon copy except for the fill indicator location

The Russell Hobbs has 2 year warranty

    • I bought the kettle in this deal a few months ago and have generally been very happy with it. However, the Target one you linked looks very much like a redesigned version of the Russell Hobbs one (came from same factory in China I wonder?) , with improvements like the water level placement and what looks like a shroud to prevent burns (got to be careful with the RH one as it gets super hot obviously being all metal and single walled).

I'd probably check out the Target one at that price over this Russell Hobbs one.

    • Bought this Target kettle, thanks a lot for the heads up - hopefully this will improve my home coffee making!

    • We had the same one, the lid stopped opening properly after a few months.

  • oh only 1 left
