Car Manufacturers Workshop Labour Rates

I am curious as to the differing labour rates charged by the car manufacturers in their own workshops around Australia.
In the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne the Mercedes dealership charges $275 (incl GST) p.h.
This is on top of the exorbitant prices they charge for parts, e.g. $175 for a pair of "genuine" MB windscreen wiper blades.

If you can afford Mercedes you got to pay for their loyalty price like Apple product.

$200 of $275 goes to the dealership

Buy a Japanese car if you don't want to pay that much

    • Yep, Japanese, or get on the tools yourself. You can't complain about the price when taking you MB to the dealer. My work had vito vans and it was always awkward being in highvis and waiting around the dealer with rich (or stupid) people. There are many great how-to videos on youtube.

$140 I though was average shop rate.

      Ex fitting and wheel alignment.

You pay for a $10k workshop computer to tell the car that they are official MB wipers, that the car is going to receive new wipers, and finally, that the car has new wipers.

@Bid Sniper.”Made in China”! Top quality! MB “certified genuine part”!

    • When I worked for Capitol BMW in 1988 we charged $20 for windscreen washer additive and $80 for wiper blades. I was on ~$350/w plus $10/day bonus if I turned up.

      Premium brands = premium prices.

A mate has the V10 M5 and it's "reasonable" to run but he sources all the parts himself and has a really good independent BMW specialist

  • Surely anybody who buys a Mercedes expects wildly overpriced dealership servicing.

That's the cost of the look at me experience.

Should take that to the German taxi union, they wouldn't stand for that kind of price gouging.

    Ahhh… top kek.

  • probably because eastern is wealthier than western so they charge more and the customers don't care.

  • All dealerships set their own prices for service labour, it is only controlled by the manufacturer if they own the site.
Ask the dealer principal if you're concerned, but they have to pay for the barista, cookies and cakes, service advisors, technicians, fancy digs and uniforms somehow.

  • Did you not consider this when you bought it?

Premium product = bend over and smile.

Wait until the warranty is over and it starts wearing out. The joy you will feel. :-)

Here is something to mull over.

  • You could always, you know, not service it at the dealership?

  • Shop around, different stealership charge different rates. Makes my stealer’s $209/hour rate and allow me to BYO parts a bit of a bargain.
