Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite WiFi 64GB Oxford Grey $439.20 Delivered ($389.20 with $50 Marketing Coupon) @ Samsung EDU Store

180

Was trying to find a reasonably priced tab for somebody else and stumbled upon the S6 Lite on the Edu store for ~$439. Had a 50$ voucher from their marketing promo, and managed to pull the trigger at ~$389.

I believe this is the lowest price for a mid-range Android tab you have access to the Edu store and if you're looking for something with a reasonably useful stylus.

  • What's the price of the S6 non lite on the Samsung store?

A side by side specs sheet

The S6 lite has a more powerful SoC and will have better after sales support both for hardware and software. It also has better cameras if that matters on your tablet.

The iPlay 20 has an LTE modem and is significantly cheaper.

Both have good (not great) displays and will work well as media players, though only the S6 lite has widevine L1 certification so you can get HD streams from netflix and Prime video. WIth the iPlay 20 you are stuck with 480p.

  • This one compares to new iPad 2020 , which one is better?

Depends on use case and whether you are already invested in android or iOS.

Practical function wise they are pretty similar and placed in a similar segment of the market (entry level tablet for both Samsung and Apple). The iPad SoC is much more powerful - but whether you need that power or can make use of that power is a separate question. You will probably get longer software support with the iPad than the S6 Lite, though Samsung is now committed to three major Android updates (so about 3 years) instead of two, closing the gap a little (the iPad mini 4th gen is the oldest model currently supported, and is about 5 years old).

The base iPad is more expensive and has a smaller storage (and Apple wants a CHUNK of change for the 128gb model)- 32GB means ~20GB usable, and a single app like Hearthstone can take up 3 GB, for example. If you plan on loading up a lot of games or media on the tablet at the same time, the storage is a significant issue.

The S6 lite has a TFT laminated LCD screen, and the iPad has a IPS non laminated LCD screen so, it's a trade off. Both are perfectly adequate, but will pale in comparison to the SAMOLED screens of flagship tablets and phones.
