nbn ISP Query (iPrimus)

Hi all,

Just wanted to get some feedback on NBN providers. Currently with FTTN TPG NBN50 for my parents place.

TPG: $69.99 unlimited data with PAYG calls
Aussie Broadband: $79.99 unlimited data with PAYG calls
iPrimus: $75 unlimited data with PAYG calls
iPrimus: $75 unlimited data with PAYG calls with 20% if holding >500 Vocus Shares Source: https://vocusgroup.com.au/investors/my-shareholding/sharehol…
Optus: $75 unlimited data with PAYG calls
Optus: $75 unlimited data with PAYG calls with 10% for Optus Employee Benefits
Telstra: $75 500GB data with PAYG calls
Telstra: $90 unlimited data with PAYG calls. There is a $10/month credit for the first 12 months.
Tangerine: $69.90 unlimited data with $10 off for first 6 months
Vodaphone: $75 unlimited data with $10 off for first 6 months

TPG: 69.99/month
Aussie Broadband $79.99/month
iPrimus: $75/month
iPrimus: $60/month with Vocus Shares applied
Optus: $75/month
Optus: $67.50/month with Optus Employee Benefits
Telstra: $75/month
Telstra: $80/month
Tangerine: $59.90/month
Vodaphone: $65/month

Based on these numbers is there any reason why more people ain't signing up to the iPrimus offer. Aussie Broadband appears pretty popular here so just wanted to ask around if I've missed anything ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Dodo and iPrimus are notorious for peak time congestion - https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2020/06/accc-sues-dodo-iprimus-ov…

My suggestions would be ABB (albeit with their recent price increases), Launtel or Superloop.

    • These 3 RSP's and Future Broadband are also worth considering imo.

    • Aussie BB 50/20 didn't get a price rise.

One that you have missed is Future Broadband. They have a nbn50 500GB for $69 and 1000GB for $79.

The difference is with them is whilst it is not unlimited it's plenty of data for most people… and they have data banking… up to 5000gb . Which means if you sit on 1000g plan and build up your data bank you can then move down to the 500GB plan and save, using up your data bank if you go over your quota.. They also offer customers a 'pay in advance' discount of up to 8% so that brings the prices back to 64.50 and 72.70 respectively.

I've been with them for some time and the network is first class, (AAPT IP-Line business network) with almost no drop outs and zero speed drops. You also get a routed static IP address which is good for some games and things like security cameras. Other ISP's can charge extra. Phone.. they have a PAYG option.

My advice it to go with a third party provider for voip like crazytel or siptalk. Much like people do now with email This means if you do go with a provider and not happy, or find a better deal its really easy just to churn elsewhere. Your phone is unaffected.

  • they're signing up to belong instead…

  • What about superloop and Kogan NBN? I will be trying these two ISPs after I’ve done my 6 months with tangerine (NBN50). Previously was with Aussie BB, it’s great but overpriced. Don’t recommend tpg there were so many dropouts.

  • absolutely anyone but iprimus.

started getting 400 ping in the afternoons making gaming impossible, support simply said they wont do anything about it and to leave if i wasn't happy which is exactly what i did.

  • According to the accc they are the slowest download speeds compared to many other.

Optus and TPG are the fastest.

  • Thanks for your comments.

General consensus is cheap is generally nasty. I think I will stay away from them for this reason.

Thanks for the PMs about decoupling NBN and landline services with different providers. Launtel daily pricing is interesting idea to allow faster speeds during peak periods. (ie NBN50 during the week and NBN100 over weekends)

Given we are in lockdowns in Melbourne will consider switching providers once its lifted.
