This or the Yamaha bad boy that's regularly featured here?

    • Came to ask the same thing

      • which Yamaha one are you referring to????

    • If you have a newer Samsung TV, this will sync volume control to the TV's remote. Plus it sounds great for the price.

      • pretty sure all newer tvs and soundbars sync through hdmi cable?

        • +2

As long as TV has HDMI ARC it will.

          • @Frayin: Thats a nice little twist, I am still using a Panasonic plasma TV and having multiple remotes for my speakers is a pain.

But it has HDMI ARC, so theoretically it should just work with it.

@Frayin: This soundbar doesn't have HDMI.

          • @Frayin: This soundbar doesn't have HDMI, so it can't do ARC

        • I not sure, have been using optical myself and it syncs with my Samsung TV remote.

          • @dantione: I had an old Toshiba TV connected via Optical and also worked fine using TV remote. Currently using on LG C9 using same way, works like a charm.

            • @whatif: TV remove can control soundbar over optical? I can't get this working for this soundbar connected to my Sony TV

              • @ryf: Yes, it uses Infrared to control. For toshiba it just worked and for LG had to setup devices in settings.

              • @ryf: I have the sk10y and it has the option to accept the infra-red signals from my Sony TV remote. if its running through optical it'll change the volume on both the TV and the sound bar but if I angle the remote control a certain way, the tv ir sensor will not get the signal and the soundbar will. having said that, I just run it off the arc which is just easier.

  • The soundbar doesn't have HDMI in or out. Your only options are optical or bluetooth. With a samsung TV, the smart remote will allow you to control the volume but not on/off.

    • Mine controls on and off also, but the TV remote is bluetooth itself. Doesn't make sense though (typically one transmitter can only be paired to one receiving device)

  • Retravision has it for $195 if you have a store nearby

Also available at The Good Guys too for $5 cheaper :)

  • I read it did have HDMI.

    • It doesn't have HDMI. I just bought this last night, there is no HDMI port.

Options are Optical, Bluetooth, and USB (I'm not sure what the USB port will and won't do, no doubt limited functionality).

Pretty happy with the purchase. Obviously it's not the greatest quality setup, but it does a good job at this price. There are obviously better sound bars at the $400-500 mark but they don't come with subs - have to pay extra to add the sub. The ones that do come with subs around the $500 mark aren't obviously better IMO, most of what you'd be paying for there is extra connectivity and surround sound.

I think there's something to be said for a small sub and lack of surround sound anyway given that a lot of people fail to set up and manage their surround sound settings which often results in worse sound, and given that small subs at least tend not to be sloppy like all too many of the larger ones.

      • Ta. Ok for an average size area and for music?

      • What is the Bluetooth version?4 or 5? Can it be paired with multiple devices?

Negging because this is actually the more expensive option, available for $195 at Harvey Norman, where I bought this from a couples months back & JB-Hi-Fi. The actual product itself is excellent. I did have a very noticeable delay with Bluetooth, not sure if that was the Vodafone TV or the soundbar. Bought this HDMI extractor to get a toslink output and works great now https://www.auselectronicsdirect.com.au/4k-hdmi-2.0-audio-sp…

Make sure if you get another HDMI extractor you get one with HDMI 2.0 compatibility, most devices use this and DRM compatibility or apps like Netflix won't work.

Negging simply because HN undercut JB a few hours later isn't really justified…i don't get it

      • Harvey Norman had the cheaper price to begin with, I bought for $195 from HN before this deal was posted

Agreed. Not a good reason for negging a deal.
