nbn Fixed Wireless Connection Relocation

I've got 2 buildings on our farm, an older one (with the NBN antenna and hardware), and a newer one where most of the internet is used.

We currently have a wireless system sending the internet, however we'd like the faster speed (&NBN phone) to be at the new house.

Does this HAVE to be relocated by NBNco or can a sparky or network technician do it?

NBN website says minimum $450 which sounds ridiculous…..any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks 👍☮️🤟🇦🇺

    Relocated by NBN.

Checked with a NBN tech I know and Twix nailed it, NBN only.

He did say with what the costs from NBN are running cat6 between the two buildings would be cheaper if they're close enough, but that doesn't solve the phone being in the wrong place so if it is close enough for ethernet to work perhaps have two cat6 runs put in and patch data through one and phone through the other?

Otherwise if it is too far away you're stuck with fibre and media converters (likely dearer than NBN moving it) or upgrading the WiFi link.

Do you have directional antennas with the APs in point to point mode? If they are only N upgrade to AC/AX? But surely even N150 in bridge mode would be about as fast as fixed wireless.

If it is simply WiFi repeaters of course it is crap with how they work, but the good thing is at that range you can easily run the two cat6 cables and move both the data and phone that way

  • Thanks, I'm looking at about 200m all up, so it's looking like the only option (with a guaranteed outcome) is to fill the NBNs coffers with cash and get them to move it.

They did offer to virtually subdivide and make one property "A" & the other "B"….but that means 2 accounts so not a suitable outcome.

    Thanks guys 👍🙏☮️🇦🇺
