I picked up a Pure DAB+ radio recently for $95 from Myer. Great little unit, the one advertised seems to have very similar specs although doesn't seem to have a colour LCD screen.

    • Highly recommend DAB+ radio, I have been enjoying the new stations (and superior clarity) for years.

The lack of screen on this one is intentional, but why anyone would pay $349 for something a $20 mobile phone can do is really beyond me.

      • To clarify, I didn't think you could listen to DAB+ via a mobile phone, can you?

        • -1

Yes you can. Look for RadioApp on Google Appstore. It supports all Australian DAB+ channels

          • +2

@genes888: That app just receives the audio through the internet, from the radio stations' websites. It doesn't receive DAB.

            • @Russ: Yes, and numerous other apps do the same, streaming via your data provider.

DAB+ is completely different and requires hardware for reception.

              • @GG57:

                requires hardware for reception

Not necessarily. Given the wide number of bands that modern mobile phones have to be compatible with, and the wide frequency range, it wouldn't surprise me to find that some use software-defined radio. Most mobile-phone base stations use this technology: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software-defined_radio

However, Australian DAB+ at 202-206MHz is way lower than any 3G or 4G bands anywhere in the world, so unlikely the antennas in mobile phones would cater to those frequencies.

Same price on the manufacturer website. Not really a bargain.

So this is only an AM/FM radio? Genuine question, how is this better than other AM/FM radios that can be had for a lower price?

This one has big knob on it.

Must be why I'm such great value.

AM/M radio - RRP $349. World has gone mad!!!

    • +1

There is probably some design element aesthetic (which escapes me) to support that price. It isn't the functionality.

      • DAB+ units have been insanely overpriced for about a decade now.

        • Probably only in Australia as we don't have the infrastructure to support DAB+ widespread reception.
It is pretty standard in Europe.

  • Brutal, shocking price!

    What's a radio?

  • +1

….AAAAAND wait for it!!!! MONO!!! Yes you have to BUY an extra speaker to get Stereo FM!

  • This is so far from a deal, that I would prefer not to see it at all.
