I've been looking at these kettles for a while and waiting for the price to go below $60. Seems like a reasonable deal for anyone looking for a classic pour over kettle.

While the Hario kettle is good, you're better off getting a similar kettle with a built in thermometer as measuring the temp is crucial for pour over coffee: https://www.amazon.com.au/Thermometer-Flow-Gooseneck-Kettles…

That's fair. Personally I prefer the quality of a "known" brand over a cheaper copy.

      • That's true. The better option is to stick with a well known brand with a built in thermometer or even a completely electrical one. All depends on your budget. I've used several in the past (no-brand and Hario) and now solely use the Fellow Stagg after my brother recommended it which he uses at work.

I personally would go with a hario regardless, better build etc. also, when you poor boiling water into the kettle and then pour it over your V60. Temps would have dropped a lot already so it wouldn't really be an issue. otherwise should just go with a full electrical one with heating element and such

      • I personally would never "guess" my temps without a thermometer. This all comes down to how finicky you want to be. Ultimately I agree the best option is full electrical etc.

    • Good idea but Hario looks much better quality

  • Hey.
    Consider this, https://www.amazon.com.au/Gooseneck-Kettle-Thermometer-Speed…

I have the previous style which looks a lot like the one you listed. Had no problems with it.

  • for those who have to pay for delivery may want to consider something from victoria basement

  • I would spend the extra money and get a full electrical kettle with heating element, as sushimaster said, so you don't lose heat going from your normal kettle to gooseneck kettle to v60.

I bought a Brewista - SmartPour Variable Digital Kettle from Proud Mary for $107.96 picked up in Melbourne, VIC: https://www.proudmarycoffee.com.au/collections/brewing-equip…. Proud Mary give you a 10% off code on first orders.

    • I'm planning to put this directly on the stove, which I don't think will be an issue.

      • Then to get the perfect temperature water, you have open the lid to stick a thermometer in there = lose heat + finicky.

Or widen the air vent holes on the kettle with a drill so you can stick a themometer in there with the lid closed = damage the kettle, but it works.

Or spend a bunch of money on Hario's official thermometer - $99 here: https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/hario-v60-drip-thermometer-ce….

Or you can just guesswork it, and have coffee that might taste average or the taste changes every time you drink it because you brew with different temperature water.

All of these options didn't work for me, so I spent the extra $50 or so and am very happy with the results.
