ARCTIC P12 PWM PST Deal for DIY Project

I saw a deal on ARCTIC P12 PWM PST fans and I could do with some help on this subject, please.

I have a gaming PC in an iTX case that overheats sometimes when it's in my Entertainment Centre (EC), but is fine outside the EC. I have a space in my iTX case for another fan, but no more ports on the motherboard. So removing an existing fan and getting 2 PST fans would be a good idea I assume?

Also I was thinking of installing 4 fans into the EC to push the hotter air out the back so cooler air can be pulled in from the front. Would these fans be good for that also? I was thinking of two of the EC fans being plugged into the iTX case PST fans, so when the system heats up, they would also spin up. The other two would be installed on the other side and USB powered by the upcoming PS5 as I'll be laying that down on its side.

So would purchasing 6 of these (2 for case, 4 for EC) be a good idea, or should I pick different fans? I'd want quieter fans where possible.

Thanks

I’ve used AC Infinity fans for my entertainment unit. Used the AIRPLATE S3 (with speed controller) for my entertainment unit connected to a wifi switch so turned it on and off as needed. Now have a SteamLink instead so the fan is redundant, but was a ‘neater’ option that using just a case fan as I had before.

I purchased it (also ordered an AIRPLATE S7 for my network cabinet as well) from Amazon US a few years ago but seems they no longer deliver it to Australia. The case fan I use to use was quiet but made a really annoying ‘buzz’ when it was installed in my entertainment unit so that’s why I spent the extra on the S3.

  • More fans are useless unless you have adequate ventilation.

If you're getting heat issues, make sure you have a route for cool air in, AS WELL AS hot air out of your entertainment centre. Make sure the hot air can't recirculate, or all the fans in the world will just push hot air back on all your components.

Even something simple like a cardboard air duct out of your PC, through your entertainment centre to a vent gap will help; this will force the fans to suck cooler air into the cabinet. Adding fans in the EC (inside the ducting) will definitely help though. PS5 will be a bit trickier until you can figure out the actual heatflow paths through the console, but the same principles apply.
