Returning a Pair of New Shoes

A couple of days ago I bought a new pair of NB runners from a local sports store for $200. I haven't taken them out of the box and I have the receipt. Afterwards I realised I had an email from AGL with a 40% off code from the NB store which brings them down to $120 with free shipping so obviously I want to take them back to the store for a full refund.

Should I just tell the truth? Or does change of mind for unused goods qualify for a refund? Kinda feels bad, but 80 bucks is 80 bucks!

Or does change of mind for unused goods qualify for a refund?

You're not legally entitled to a refund for change of mind, even new and not opened. See their returns policy or ask nicely.

If their return policy says OP can refund it unopened for any reason, then isn't he entitled to a refund?

      • Your are not legally (automatically) entitled to a refund for change of mind under consumer law. But under store policy, if allowed, he can. As I suggested to op, see their returns policy or ask nicely.

Would you be happy with a store credit?

    • I'd prefer a refund but I guess I could use credit to buy other things over time.

    Nuh.

Store will reject using hygiene issue

      And covid too

      • They said I could take them home and try them with socks on (I didn't have any and I couldn't use theirs cause of covid) and bring them back if not comfortable. I am guessing to exchange for another shoe/size.

The truth is you have a "change of mind" refund request. Change of mind does not convey any right to a refund. Whether or not the retailer you bought from is prepared to do you a favour is up to them.

    • Thanks, I'll ask and if not will see if they'll do store credit.

    just buy another one
    wear it on alternate days

did u go to the shore wanting that pair (and got it at rrp) or did the try a few shoes and found the r8ght pair for u

if it's the second, just buy another, knowing h have a pair that fits you

if it's the first, return it OzBargain badge, for buying anything at rrp!

    • The second one. Tried a few on and ended up with the NB. I might go with buying another pair online and alternating. They do wear out quick!

You have said a couple times above and below that you couldn't try them on due to no socks.
But here you say you tried a few on.
        Which is it?

Different stores have different policies - e.g. some have a no questions asked refund policy

    Take them back.
Tell them whatever they need to hear to get a refund.

  • Did you pay by credit card? Check if you have price drop protection as part of your credit card and get them to pay the difference.

I used to have the 28 degrees card but axed it a little while ago. Pretty sure that the price protection doesn't include coupons or codes though.

      • Incorrect. As long as the end price was cheaper coupons were allowed. Proof: claimed many times from ebay sales and other online sales that used codes.

    Sell for $160

Another reason I'm a fan of purchasing online through Puma, they offer change of mind free returns with in 50 days.

  • Not sure if they’ll take them back due to hygiene reasons because of covid-are they supposed to disinfect the shoes, box and packaging materials? Rhetorical question

    • They said I could take them home and try them with socks on (I didn't have any and I couldn't use theirs cause of covid) and bring them back if not comfortable. I am guessing to exchange for another shoe/size, probably not a refund.

  • Ring them first and enquire toward their return policy. If you can have a "change of mind" then go for it.

  • If it is their policy to give refunds for unused goods for change of mind then return them. You don’t need to explain anything.
