ThinkPad E15 Gen 2 CPU Runs Hot

Been running some benchmarks on the E15 with Ryzen 5 4500u.
At the top battery performance setting and running CPUZ stress test the CPU temp was 98 degrees after about 2-3 minutes.
Had a look on AMD website and max temp is 105 degrees. 98 still seems pretty hot.
Anyone have a similar experience?

  • Does it get to those levels during regular usage? You are stress testing the machine so it is no unusual to see it reach the high temps.

If you’re encountering system instability issues like abrupt shut downs, blue screen crashes, and freezes—especially while doing something demanding like playing PC games or encoding video - your computer may be overheating. Overheating can happen for several reasons.

    • Haven’t tried under the top performance setting. But the other lower settings are fine, high 80 / low 90 under load.

  • You could try and lower the TDP and do a repaste with some MX-4 or Liquid Metal.

  • 98 degrees is fine when CPU is maxed out. Within specs. Macbooks run around 100C under stress because the fans don't come on until temperatures are quite high (keeps the fan noise down)

I've been eying this laptop - how's the screen?

    • I find the screen is ok except the low brightness might be an issue if you plan on using it outside.
The other issue I have is that it occasionally connects to the the WiFi but claims there is no internet connectivity.

    • It’s actually fairly reflective for a matt. Fine indoors under moderate lighting. Struggles a little in a brightly lit room.
