Cleaning Products for BBQ Hot Plate and Stainless Steel Exterior?

My BBQ has seen better days. The hot plates are quite rusted and orange, the stainless needs a good tidy up. Wondering what people generally use to get great results. Was thinking of taking the hot plates out and spraying them with some oven cleaner but unsure how that'd go. Recommendations for both the stainless steel and the hot plates greatly appreciated.

  • Stsrt off with a solid pressure hose.

  • Heat and water

  • Light grade steel wool for the stainless, depends on the quality of it.

When the stainless is clean, protect with oil, WD40 etc.

Yes, oven cleaner will help. Steel wool soap pads, too. However, you need elbow grease no matter what you do.

  • Get it really hot then clean with water and a wire brush.

wire brush on the end of a drill. spray with something to help dislodge gunk first.

  • For stainless steel I recommend bar keepers friend, can get it from supermarkets or amazon

  • Back in the days when I worked at Maccas we used Sprite to clean the grill, on very high heat. It would clean the gunk off in no time with light scraping aswell. Either Sprite or Soda water worked fine. And then finish clean with water. Obviously this was done routinely so it would not build up overtime. We did not use any cleaning products on the grill.

  • SS loves diluted Eucalyptus oil, spray on, short soak, and lightly wipe off excess.
