Motorola DEFY+ MB526 $299 Prepaid Phone from Telstra (Blue Tick)

170

This is a good and worthy alternative to the $299 Incredible S and Nexus S deals.

I can find no indication on the website that it is locked to Telstra, but it would be best to call them in order to check just in case.

Water and dust resistant
3.7” scratch resistant touch screen, with Corning® Gorilla® Glass and pinch to zoom
Powered by Android™ 2.3 with MOTOBLUR® and access to Android Market™

  • It's not outright it's a pre-paid. Just came onto pre-paid in time for xmas along with LG Optimus Spirit and Samsung Galaxy Ace. So yeah.. Because its pre-paid I'd imagine it's locked…

    • But it says outright ):

yep and i wish someone would pull Telstra up on this terminology…has been used by them for a good while and to me is a deceptive terminology.

(telstra would have legal people check it first…the law is an ass ;)

Looks like it is free to have it unlocked.

        • +1

"free to have it unlocked" is only for the iPhone, not for Defy+

This is still an good deal even if locked, given that the original Defy went for $600 to start with. Being locked to Telstra is actually doing you a favour because this phone has been designed to work best on Telstra anyway (as it is Blue Tick/NextG).

pretty sure it is capacitive. scratch resistant = hard to scratch, not that its resistive

edit: specs here, capacitive screen http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_defy-3514.php

I don't think you understand… the two types of touch screen are RESISTIVE and CAPACITIVE. This is a capacitive screen (the good kind), and it is also scratch resistant meaning it RESISTS the formation of scratches.

LOL didn't anybody else think he was joking?

      • +1

Geese! I am relieved that at least a few understood the humour.

        • yeah and i can't believe you're getting negged for it lol.. sad.

I understand your joke mate and I think it was funny!

EDIT: Beaten by a couple of hours lol must have been sitting on the page.

IMO Nexus S and Incredible S are better choices than this.

Incredible S has a better camera, GPU, Sense and build
Nexus S has better updates, NFC, screen and secondary camera

Neither of those are compatible with the NextG network.
Yes, spec-wise the other phones are better (other than the rather bizarre higher resolution of the Defy+), but if you want to use Telstra, only this one is compatible and it's a Blue Tick to boot.

Additionally… this is supposedly waterproof to <1m for <30min.

  • DEFY (not +) is $259 at mobileciti unlocked. (via their facebook page)

    http://www.facebook.com/mobileciti.com.au

    • Postage: $13.80
Other notes: not NextG, slower CPU

  • ALL the pre-paid phones from Telstra are LOCKED TO TELSTRA.

The "outright" label is misleading but you may be able to use it to your advantage.

However, they are definitely locked to Telstra.

    Caveat Emptor.

    • Not true. I bought the 299 galaxy tab and its definitely not locked

      • That was not a prepaid device however.

  • Was tempted to cancell my HTC IS, as this was Next G and blue ticked until i read some reviews apparently the blue tick has been removed because of coverage issues and the gorilla glass breaks when dropped.

    • You sure that's not the earlier version? (non +)

    • Gorilla glass does break when dropped at certain angles, though is otherwise reasonably hardy. I dropped mine from half a meter onto the corner (admittedly onto asphalt) which cracked the screen fairly badly. Got it replaced by pulling a few strings, but already have scratches on my new one (in three months or so) which has messed up the touch screen and can make texting somewhat infuriating. Becoming laggy also as I've downloaded a number of apps via amazon. Alot more pocket sized that others on the market but i'm not sure I'd buy one given the chance again…

  • i wouldnt consider this a deal cause its always been this price though :L

The part under RRP where it says
      "$389 to $435 at 4 stores"

  • I rather the htc incredible S compared to the defy. Unless you use a custom rom, you are going to have problems with lag just because its not coded well and motoblur bogs the system down

  • Bought this from telstra last week, didn't mind that it was locked to them as I use them anyway. For what it's worth, I'm very happy with the phone and would definitely recommend it.
