When we first met Elio, he had about 10 nebbiolo wines on tasting! From the first sip, we knew we were on to something very, very special. Elio said that their production was around 80,000 bottles per year which is a small operation and fits our artisan vision perfectly. Elio has a hand in just about every facet of the operation from tending the vines on the farm, to picking and pressing, and every process during vinification, as well as a hand in sales and marketing. He is a man that wants perfection at every turn.

His passion is nebbiolo and Piedmont is his playing ground. Elio focusses his attention on the most famous wine towns in Piedmont, Barbaresco and Barolo, each with a population under a thousand. In these regions there are more vineyards than people and although all of Elio’s wines were impressive, we couldn’t take them all back to Oz! We picked 3 from many fine examples and this one is the flagship of our trio. It is all about Christmas pudding on both the nose and palate, lots of stewed and soured dates, sultanas and cherries, then throw in lashings of dirt at which point you can just about smell the farm. This is a very intense and complex wine that has layer upon layer of flavours.

Although it comes already with several years’ age, it has another few decades to go if you are more patient than us. If you’re a must-have-it-now kind of person like us, then try it with wagyu beef char grilled on a barbie, served with a creamy mushroom sauce. You will be transported to another universe! You could possibly imagine yourself as a Roman Caesar or Cleopatra, sitting down to the finest fare and beverage under the human sun. If we could design heaven, this food and wine combo would be on its menu every day!

Not sure about the wine but love the description.

    • Thank you. We are wine nuts and can get a bit carried away!

  • Expected a case for that price

    • This is a very rare wine that happens to be on special this week only.

    Thats an awesome wine-wank speech.

    • We are wine nuts and do get carried away at times!!

      • So have you sold this at RRP previously or not?

Presumably you usually sell wine at RRP, unlike most other retailers? If not then you're sailing close to the wind with your advertising:
"Businesses using statements such as 'savings' or 'discounts' when comparing a sale price to the RRP of goods and services may convey to potential customers that they are getting a good deal because the sale price is less than the RRP. If the product has never been previously sold at the RRP, or the RRP does not reflect a current market price, then this type of comparison may, depending on the circumstances, misrepresent the savings that may be achieved."

Wait, I only have to spend just under a thousand and you'll throw in free shipping?! My still my beating heart at such boundless generosity.

What's the reason for your neg?

      • thanks for your question - per the ozbargain guidelines i believe there is an issue with the retailer in that the posted RRP price is not genuine

Why didn't you mention that in your original comment then?

          • @magic8ballgag: thanks for the follow up question - my vote was for a presumptive lack of adherence to consumer law, which had already been covered by other comments - i didn't see value in redundant posting. i did also want to point out that the criteria for being eligible for free shipping was rather ungenerous.

@wordpickle: How does one determine the RRP of an artisan wine?

Wines differ greatly in quality and price, so I think it's fair for them to value it however they see fit.

Unless of course you're assuming OP has never sold the advertised product for the RRP mentioned.

IF they're the maker/original supplier they can value it however they like, but they can't invent a RRP - or advertise RRP discounts without having sold the product at that price relatively recently as you've suggested. We need the OP to clarify. There's far too much of this "RRP discount" bs on this website.

    • We have many wines that are less in price than the one mentioned. So it will not be the case

      • Sorry I'm a bit slow. Can you clarify what that means please. The law is (relatively) clear re RRP advertising if that's what you're referring to. Not just on Ozb, but also on your website.

  • Listed on Vivino with an average price of $111.52 (internationally), so looks like a good deal at $81.90 for an imported wine:

    • It is an amazing price! Thank you. And the Vivino price does not include the huge tax the Australian put on alcohol when importing or the duty costs. You can add another $40 to the Vivino price!
