The 2020 Alpinist is on sale(Ivory and Silver model) and cheaper than the OG Alpinist SARB017 on Amazon (currently sitting at $730 + $18 delivery).

This watch features a black leather strap and a stainless steel case with an ivory dial with a screw case back, a screw lock crown and a exhibition see through case back. All Alpinist models feature a rotating compass inner ring.

Personally, I prefer the SARB Alpinist over the 2020 Alpinist because the 2020 Alpinist has the Prospex logo on it, and features a display caseback (and without the classic Alpinist logo) but this is a pretty good deal for this version of the Alpinist if you're not a fan of the sunburst Green & Gold and sunburst Ivory & Gold dials of the other 2020 Alpinists. The SPB119 has silver applied indices and a matte ivory dial.

The 6R35 movement has an even longer power reserve than the 6R15 in the SARB017 (70 hours vs 50 hours).

        The Black Alpinist has never been under $900. Different category really.

        This is extremely tempting except it is probably the least desirable out of all the colourways. If it was the ivory/brown one (or certainly the green one) I'd be all over this like a fat kid on trans fats.

    Having said that (and having owned a few SARBs) I think they were great value back in the day as a $400 watch, mediocre value at $600 and way overpriced at RRP

      Seiko has gone too far upmarket for me to really consider any of their watches now when there are so many microbrands with better value propositions. I would have happily bought a Monster Gen 2 if they still sold them, but with now even the 5KX being $300, that's a hard pass from me unless on heavy discount.

      I ended up with the 123 over the 119 too. The 123 is a little more exciting and different. And the stock strap is actually surprisingly good

        The 123 reminds me of the hi-beat Alpinists (powered by the 4S15 movement) sold by Seiko in the 90s - it's definitely a beautiful piece.

    To those that bought one, the deployant clasp Seiko include must be made for Japanese wrists because it digs into my wrist like a torture device. You may need to buy a new strap to go along with it.
