Gaming Keyboard advice

Hi,
My son had a Razor Black widow silent key board.

Returned to Amazon today as the keys were doing random commands.

Looking for a replacement around $150 or so.

Any other options?

Thanks.

Have you searched? There have been a few recent deals.

    • Yeah, also buy some lube for the keys

      • Lube? You can lube Razer switches?

        • You can use silicon based lube for mechs

          • @jackinyourbox: I'm just wondering, because I am quite sure that the BW doesn't support switch top removal, so would it really be worth using Krytox or Tribosys on these switches?

            • @YeemaiI: 205g0 is great stuff on the stem to make it quieter. It’s probably not worth unsoldering though. There’s a dodgier way to do without dissembling which is silicon spray however I have it tried that method

    • I don't know what is good. Maybe just bad luck with the Razor.

sounds like something was spilt on the keyboard

That's not a lot of info to go on but perhaps he doesn't have any particular requirements / preferences?

I think the Razer Blackwidow Silent uses orange switches which are not super popular. But they are linears (so look at keyboards with red/black switches).

For equivalent brands, have a look at Logitech / Corsair / Glorious / HyperX. These are the usual 'cool gaming brands' that have equivalent gaming mechanical keyboards to the Razer Blackwidow Silent.

Hi, I been out the loop a little bit but will try to give you an overview.
Might want to check out the mech KB deal pages
I'd suggest keeping an eye out for Amazon Prime Day next week 13 Oct.

Does your son prefer tactile switches or linear? Linear just goes down smooth as you press, no "feedback bump" in the middle. There is clicky tactile, and soft tactile (mx brown). I prefer linear 100% as I type all day and its just far less tiring.

I like Leopold, Varmilo, Ducky and Coolermaster (but they don't go on sale a lot). HyperX Alloy FPS was lower priced and not too bad. There are oldschool names with a price premium like Filco, Topre, Happy Hacking KB ($$$$). I'm not buying Logitech (their first gen RomerG short-actuation switches felt odd - subjective ofcourse). The Corsair mech boards I had were forgettable - won't buy again.

Years ago they were only Cherry MX but now there are opto-mechanical switches, Cherry clones (Kailh, Gateron), Razer switches, expensive ones with adjustable actuation level. I tried boards with short stroke (actuation level) and it just annoyed me.

COVID probably killed the opportunity to try out mech keyboards at computer shops but who knows, maybe some shops near you still offer the service. Brissy pc stores used to have heaps of mech kb on demo.

    Good luck!

  • Logitech g413 is on amazon at the moment for $135 it's a good solid build that feels pretty great in my opinion.
Not a silent keyboard though if clacking is going to be a problem.

  • kemove snowfox, k66, yc66, k87, gk64, blitzwolf

  • My son asked for Anne Pro 2. Bluetooth works very well and the set up looks superb!
