Looking for a Electric Standing Desk

Hi Guys,

Looking for some help picking a electric standing desk!

Since Covid i have been looking for a desk upgrade from my 20 year old ikea computer desk.

I would generally like to mount two 27" monitors on the desk and have space for my wireless headset, soundbar, a full size keyboard and mouse and space for some documents when working.

Initially looking at the Ikea Idasen https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/idasen-desk-sit-stand-black-dar…

So i guess budget would be around $800 but am open to going to $1000.

Any feed back on the Idasen is also welcome!

Thanks guys.

    • Thanks man didn't know if there was gonna be anything coming up for electric standing desk.
      ill give it a browse.

  • mount two monitors on the desk

A large problem for me when using monitors mounted to arms that are attached to a standing desk is wobbling when doing normal things like using mouse. The monitor arms bounce up and down.

So watch out for this, not sure if it can be fixed but my standing desk is a pretty cheap one so maybe it can.

    • Thanks ill keep that in mind.

I bought a 1.8m standing desk from Zen Space Desks and have a 34" and 27" on monitor mounts.

The desk itself is quite good but their customer service is a let down:

    1. Their quality control was lacking on my desk as one of the holes in the metal of the leg was in the wrong position to attach to the desktop. I'm in Victoria so couldn't easily get a proper tool to resolve the issue, so ended up spending about an hour with a drill bit elongating a hole in 3mm thick metal. Their customer service rep completely ignored this issue when I contacted them about it.

    2. I purchased a bamboo desk top which comes predrilled for attaching the legs to it, with nuts embedded in the wood as bamboo is notorious for splitting when screwed into. I also purchased a computer holder so my pc will move up and down with the desk to avoid the risk of putting strain on cables as the desk moves up and down. Sadly the computer holder needs to be drilled into the desk (smallish screws so probably okay) between the edge of the desk and the legs, but there is less than 10cm of space outside the legs to mount the holder on the bamboo desk. Their solution is to move the leg on one side of the desk in to create room for it (large screws so bigger risk of splitting the bamboo). I wouldn't have purchased the addon if I had known this upfront and they aren't prepared to do anything about it.

Overall it is a solid desk and I'm pretty happy with it, but disappointed with the company. Omnidesk sell a similar product and I'm more likely to recommend them based on my experience with Zen - I paid a lot of money for a premium desk and my expectations were not met.

@OP Omni currently have their desks on sale for $720 for the 48" version and options for bigger desks at a higher price. Check it out at https://theomnidesk.com.au/products/omnidesk-pro-2020. I'd personally recommend the ergo edge which adds a bit of price, but gives you an angled edge to lean on rather than a corner at the front of the desk when you are standing.

  • Best to make your own- just use a winding thing to move it up and down…

it's great, use it everyday, up/down all day

Ikea one is only rated to 75KG. read the PDF on page 26

    • Hows the wobble on the desk?

      • Barely noticeable. Doesn't get in the way of usual desk function

  • I also purchased a Zen Space Desk, works well. But attaching the table top to the legs was odd

  • The other easy alternative is to have a couple of the 190mm besser/concrete blocks handy and combine with a bit of exercise and your existing desk and in no time at all you will have a desk suitable to stand at!

this has a good comparison sheet on it

  • im looking for one also but want a desk that has powerpoints built in

    • Yeah I'm looking for this too and about to get the zen space desk because their built in powerpoints management looks pretty good compared to the others.
But there's just not enough reviews around.

      • fell like i may just go to an officeworks and test them out

also a bunch of them are either too low of high in the lowest setting so best to test them out

but also want to look at the omnidesk ones as the have good accessories

but i did see an IKEA one and it had a net under it for cables and had a nice finish and warranty

  • Anyone got a desk with the ergo curve / ergo edge?
Does really make much of a difference?
