  • Apart from the not-so wide view, and small quirks, the camera is great and I also like the grip"Sony GP-VPT2 Bluetooth Shooting Grip" as it's so much easier to zoom, use custom function, record, or wirelessly take photos.

I like how this camera has a fluffy afro

  • Yes why does this camera come with a fluffer?
I am assuming it is detachable, otherwise does this camera have a decent macro?

    • Yeah it's detachable it's just to prevent the noise from wind

    • It has reasonable macro but not amazing. Also it's primarily aimed at video not stills.

Spend a bit more elsewhere and get that local warranty.

Don't risk your money with Tobydeals. Currently dealing with them on my first (probably the last) purchase about 1 month ago, they will make the warranty voided without any valid reasons when you are asking for replacement or repair. Dunno why Tobydeals hasn't been banned on Ozbargain.

      Have you tried fair trading?

      • Trying PayPal resolution centre dispute, if it doesn't work, I will get some help from Fair Trading.

Based in HK, good luck with that.

Dunno why Tobydeals hasn't been banned on Ozbargain.

Why would they? Because YOU have an issue?

You didn't explain any details, all you did was throw mud. Maybe you are in the wrong.

I bought a keyboard from them recently and it arrived quickly, no issues. So on that basis, have a downvote!

I never blamed their postage speed, mine arrived in 3 days. I've been talking after-sale service. When you are dealing with them on WARRANTY CLAIMS, definitely share your experience with us. If the item you bought never has any issue over years, I can only say you are super lucky.

I told my story in detail in one of precious posts. Luckily I paid via PayPal, the dispute is still ongoing. Hopefully I can get my money back, won't risk my money again with Tobydeals.

        • I've looked up your issue, and you're trying to claim warranty for lens fogging. The problem with that is, it's not a "fault". The manufacturer of that camera can't fix it… all they can do is suggest you use a lens protector.

Did you research the camera before you purchased? If you had, you'd find a lot of people get the fogging lens. So it's a "flaw" with that model, not a fault with individual units. So replacing the camera with the same model won't help you.

Since you had the camera for a month, you've exceeded the 14 day period for returns.

Try this video about the fogging issue on your camera. This guy explores solutions, as you should be! https://youtu.be/uGHyJIW5U98

He said the manufacturer sent him lens covers as the solution, so you're obviously not going to get anywhere trying to claim warranty with your issue, as the manufacturer does not deem it a repairable fault.

You need to direct your frustration towards the camera manufacturer, rather than the retailer. Since you can buy a waterproof housing for the camera, it obviously is not water proof, and also seems to heat up quickly and so any air temp difference will cause condensation on lens. That's tough luck. We've all been there. Find yourself a better camera that handles more environmental conditions.

          • @cerealJay: I didn't notice the fogging issue before buying, since I watched many reviews, no one mentioned about this. After I experienced the fogging issue, I did research on Youtube, and found out there are plenty of people have the same issue with their units. But NOT EVERY UNIT OF THIS PRODUCT HAS THIS FOGGING ISSUE, some of them don't have the issue even without the lens protector. So there must be a design flaw or quality control issue with it.

Funny thing was, I got in touch with Insta360 Official, they want me to post the camera back to Hong Kong office (on my own cost) and offer a free replacement unit (they probably fixed up the issue with their latter production). Obviously Manufacturer (Insta360) and Retailer (Tobydeals) have opposite behaviour, that's why I feel so pissed off on Tobydeals. But I will be still worrying what if I get the new replacement back from Insta360, after a few month it starts with any other issue. Am I explaining, posting, waiting again and again? No way.

So finally I decided to get my money back via PayPal and spend the money on local stock in future. There will be many hassles on warranty claims when dealing with irresponsible grey-import seller who only wants to SELL products and staying away with after-sale support as far as they can.

            • @Spacexyz: Your explanation doesn't help your argument. The reason why not every unit has fogging issue is because not everyone uses the camera in the same conditions where fogging will happen.

Also your camera wasn't "broken". The fogging will disappear, leave it inside in a warm dry place etc… and then from that point on, put a lens protector on. It's not like your camera "broke". You could still use it, as the person said in the youtube link from my last comment. He wants to keep the camera even with fogging issue. So the camera is not broken!

So while I understand it's an edge case, you had the camera for too long and your claim was along the lines of "I don't like this camera anymore because of how it's designed and because in some circumstances it fogs up". That's an invalid warranty claim.

And your initial research was poor. Then later you found "plenty of people" with same issue, and none of them getting replacements or repairs! So the lesson is do better research on expensive items.

@cerealJay: Wow, mate, are you a sales rep from Tobydeals? You tried very hard.

Insta360 One R is an action camera which is advertised water proof for certain degree without the case, the case is made for diving and hardcore stuff. I didn't even let it touch any water yet, I only walk around in a park at Blue Mountains, then the fogging started after a few minutes inside the lenses, the video I shot got totally ruined with 2 big white spots. I saw the "solutions" you saw, but I highly doubt it the fog will come back any time again. I haven't taken it to any beaches or for snow boarding yet, I never will, at least not with this unit.

I probably mentioned in my previous post, the camera overheats after 20 minutes video recording indoors at normal temperature. I tried different U3 SD cards, it didn't help. So there is something wrong with the camera itself. HOW COME AN ACTION CAMERA OVERHEATS AND STOP RECORDING AFTER 20 MINUTES TIME???

Plenty of people had the fogging issue with this camera, I realised that when I experienced the same issue and did specific search "Insta360 ONE R fogging", but I don't know what they finally ended up with. If they bought local stock, it gets fixed easily, if they bought grey imports like me, then wish good luck to them.

As an ACTION camera which will face extreme weather conditions, fogging, overheating, weird "slow" SD card notification, etc these kind of issues are not acceptable. The issues may not happen on every unit they sell, but for the product I bought from Tobydeals, it should be taken care for replacement or repair within one year period at least, but Tobydeals only said "The warranty of your product is voided, since it's human mistake, you will need to pay for the cost to repair it." So what was my mistake exactly??? LMAO.

I like the camera and I will buy this camera again from local retailer 100%.

                Tobydeals warranty = 0.

                • @Spacexyz:

"the video I shot got totally ruined with 2 big white spots"

LOL, cry me a river. Your video wasn't "totally" ruined.

the camera overheats after 20 minutes

So don't record more than 20 minutes. If you don't like that limitation… you know what to do: SELL THE CAMERA AND FIND A DIFFERENT CAMERA THAT SUITS YOUR PURPOSE.

What is it with entitled butt-hurt consumers these days that demand perfection in everything? And if they don't get, they rant and rave, and make demands, and troll forums. As I said, your camera is not broken.. you've just DISCOVERED ITS LIMITATIONS.

"So what was my mistake exactly???"

Equating the limits of your camera with "repairable fault" when the manufacturer has already stated it's not a fault - both the overheating and fog.

Now, if you don't like that, fair enough. But it's nothing to do with the retailer. Your beef is with the design of the camera.

Millions of reviews for every product under sun are available 24/7 from your sofa. You FAILED to do your research, and now you blame the retailer for that.

I don't care about who the retailer is.. I have zero interest in Tobys or "Cam's Cheap-Arse Cams"… I couldn't care less. I'm responding to your ridiculous demands for Toby's to be "banned" from this website, because you're butt-hurt about your action camera.

"I like the camera and I will buy this camera again from local retailer 100%."

And that will be your next mistake, given that the Insta 360 Repair Service team told someone with the heat issue that it's "normal", so there's nothing to be done. So if you buy the same camera again, you're looking like one of those customers who is always wrong. Do your research, and learn from your purchase mistakes:

Yep, I think we need to keep negging until they're off OzBargain…

  • This is a great vlog camera but if you donโ€™t need 4k, canon 250D is a great alternative - it actually does 4k as well, but the focus is horrible.

  • Even The reps stay silence in any of negative comments about them in any oz bargain postings …. buyers beware !!!
