Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium Automatic Watch US$544.90 (~A$760) Delivered, Including Tax @ Jomashop

Very nice watch for the price, retails for $1175 at Myer and Tissot Australia. Haven't seen it for under $950. Please use the coupon code before checkout to get $20 USD off.

  • Released late last year, it uses the Powermatic 80 automatic movement which has been certified -4 to +6 seconds per day (COSC). Probably the most accurate automatic movement you can get at this price. The power reserve is 80 hours, however at the cost of some reduction to VPH (21600 from 28800) - making the second hand movement less smooth. The 'Silicium' here refers to the silicon hairspring used instead of more conventional materials, reducing the risk of interference on the watch's accuracy from magnetic fields.

  • Only real concern is the unconventional 21mm lug width (hard to find straps at 21mm, lies between the 20mm and 22mm standards). The lume is quite sparse as well, especially if you're coming from Seiko diving watches.

Note:
Note that Jomashop is kind of like a 'grey import' seller, you won't get Tissot warranty but you will get 2 years of warranty from Jomashop itself (who are based in Brooklyn NY). I heard that their repair service is decent, but takes some time. Plus you have to deal with hassle of posting it overseas. So please keep that in mind.

  • You forgot the import tax to Aus
    760 + 10% import tax…

    • +2

Import tax already included in 760 - that's how much I paid in total. The $65.9 USD shipping covers the import tax as well - which is why it's so expensive. If you buy the stainless steel for example, the shipping price goes up due to the more expensive import tax included. You can see this in checkout - it shows you the price of tax and shipping.

  • I bought the leather strap with a blue dial for $730 from a jewellery store in January. I will say the bracelet price is quite good, I enquired about getting the bracelet by itself and it costs $220 to just to get that alone.

    • Wow, that's a mega good deal. Where did you get the watch, if I may ask?

      • +1

        I found it through here actually now I think of it;
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/512409

I went to a Mazzuchelli's store earlier and the best price they would do for the bracelet variant was $930.

    • Yeah always get the bracelet version if you think you'll use it / for resale imo.

Slightly regret getting my last watch on the leather to save a few bucks

      • +1

for a few bucks more its a no brainer

        https://www.jomashop.com/tissot-watch-t127-407-11-051-00.htm…

but damn is it generic looking

      • Yeah now I think about it I rarely wear bracelets but I would prefer to have it just because. It is a nice bracelet though and nice leather straps aren't too expensive to replace. Ah well, live and learn.

      • Just a question, how would you replace these bands? I think they're spring bars but based on the images I don't think I can get my spring bar tool between the lug and the strap.

        • +1

For a more expensive watch you may as well pay your local jeweler… as cheap as $5 from the asians at the market and like $10 from a store.

BUt yeah you want a springbbar tool or preter pliers.

  • +1

How does this compare to Seiko Sea Urchin?

    • It doesn't. Being serious.

    • +1

The sea urchin is a great starter watch. This is the next level up. Better in every aspect with a swiss movement

  • Damn I like this. Might be a bit big for my small wrists.. :(

    • its a 40mm

should fit anyone… even young ladies wear bigger these days

      • I wear a 38 and the reviews say its 47 to the lug and wears big.

Fair bit of coin to speculate without trying on.

  • uses the Powermatic 80 automatic movement which has been certified -4 to +6 seconds per day (COSC)

It doesn't look like it's a certified chronometer though?

This one seems like a good deal too for about half the price

  • is this a good piece https://www.jomashop.com/tissot-watch-t0864071105100.html its way cheaper but retails the same. i wil buy if its nearly the same as its only 289 USD as to 542.5 USD ,

    • +2

      looks fine to me

its just about the same spec quality but its an older line and a different price point

be advised that jomashop has absolutely horrible post sales service

i have bought a few pieces that went fine but they are up to chinese levels of service if something goes wrong

  • I've been eyeing off the blue dial on the bracelet for a while now. Never seen it drop in price. Tempting…
