  • great. Had always want to give it a try. Thanks

Up until very recently the Australian was FREE to view online. Now you only get a blurb before it tells you that you need to sign up.
I used to enjoy reading the Australian but now I go to Google news and ABC instead.

    • Welcome to the world of the "paywall"

    • +1

they are breaking you in gently. i would just use another site for news. there are plenty of free ones.

      • +1

watch their advertising revenue start to take a dive in 3 months when the number of readers sinks through the floor…

  • +1

the shouldnt be charging in the first place!

  • +1

This used to always be free, now they are charging for it ???

This is an anti-bargain… I've deleted the bookmark from my browser…

I notice they still haven't removed any ads, if i was going to pay why should i be subjected to ads ???

    • JV give it away.

ANTI-BARGAIN?? What a lot of crap.

You dont want to pay. Dont. But others may just like this deal and are happy to give it a try. Censoring a deal because of your beliefs is a little selfish. Do you REALLY believe anyone from NEWS is going to read your rant here? (this is my PERSONAL view not my MOD view).

Next its ok to neg deals on bottle water specials because water has been free for centuries…

Now will I take this up - yep. Will I continue after 3 months - most likely not, unless they can give me something that I value, and frankly there are many sources of news that are free.

But there are also hundreds of free apps, and I buy some apps (most at a discount)

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. Ozpete - this is not my Batman glass.

      • +5

ANTI-BARGAIN?? What a lot of crap.

Well, it's always been free, now all they are doing is getting you to register and still giving it to you free before they jack up the price…

It was free and it still is free for three months, that is not a bargain
and in three months, you will be paying for something that has always been free, that is an anti-bargain

      • It's NOT ok to neg bottled water deals.

        • +1

          i don't get the analogy…

this online content was free, and now it's still free for 3 months, how is that a bargain ? it's the same service, it even still has ads…

Dont hijack a deal to rave on about what you believe in

Political discussions are offensive in a deal post - use the appropriate area we have for this , the forums.

Comments and votes based on political views have been removed.

And for others read the guidelines on voting. Mods can remove votes that dont comply, like +1 etc as they tell us nothing. In the case of JV while I personally disagree with his comments (see above) the vote stands because he has the courtesy to this community to explain why he voted.

Clear reasons of a negative vote is saying to others here you respect their time.

    • "he has the courtesy"

      I haven't been called courteous for a while… :)

If you cant use the australian newspaper to line the bottom of the bird cage then it aint good for anything.

  • +1

    bleh
Down with this 'deal'.. down I say.

  • legitimate reasons for neg votes removed completely by a mod (and now the votes themselves have been deleted). why? because they disagreed with the personal views of a mod?

can someone please explain which rules were broken here?

discussion was based on content of said deal. just like any other deal previously posted here.

  • +3

How is this a deal? A product has been free for years, but never fear - you get a free trial before you get ripped off.

NEGATIVE VOTE :::: You have already voted on this deal. Your vote has been subsequently revoked

    • -3

Very simple read the voting guidelines.

@Bonn Putting valid reasons after the revoking isnt going to change it back.

If you read the thread you would have seen the warning.

Its a simple matter of etiquette, use the negative vote, give a reasonable explanation for the vote.

Down with the deal and bleh doesnt say much more than the negative vote - so you are saying it twice.

      @UFO

well said mate, couldnt have said it better. i neg for the same reasons."

Under his comment that he got a penalty once for questioning a mod. - Thats his story - its usually a little more complex than that we dont ban members for having a difference of opinion. Personal attacks or ignoring a warning are more likely.

So you are negging for something NOT related to the deal. Simple - read the guidelines

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

And both of you can take this up in TWAM this is not the thread to continue this discussion. In TWAM you can even discuss this with other mods

      • +1

thats fair enough pete, but a post i made further down highlighted my reasoning much more clearly… but was consequently deleted (along with my neg vote).

i believe my reasoning for the neg vote was valid according to website rules published.

        • No worries, except this other valid point was 1 hour after your vote.

          As I said to Bohn

Putting valid reasons after the revoking isnt going to change it back.

Again into TWAM if you want continue this (I edited my last post at the same time you were posting - so no issue here with your last post)
