Optus Price Match on 5G Phones

Moved to Forum: Original Link

The Optus 5G Price Match Promise is a simple concept whereby Optus will match any competitor’s upfront retail price on the same 5G mobile phone, if the phone is also sold by Optus.

I went in store today and applied for a contract at Optus and I was able to price match the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with Kogan which brought the phones price down to $1642. I believe Optus will price match against Kogan, Amazon, Apple, Samsung and others, you should be able to ask the Sales staff member for a full list of competitors that they price match against.

A family friend was able to price match the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus against Becextech but that seems pretty rare to do.

Also, if you contract two phones you can get 50% off the second sim in-store. Online were only offering me 25% on the second sim.

You managed to price match with Kogan? Pretty sure they are grey imports, aren't they?
Most places don't price match Kogan so you did well.

I thought so too. I was able to secure two of the same phones so I'm happy

      • curious, how much $ did you save?

Two contracts on the $49 plan both with the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra came to $209 a month over 24 months so saving of $15 a month. I should also note in store they do 50% off the second sim.

  • Q: Which retailers does Optus price match against?
A: Optus will price match all eligible Australian retailers (T&Cs apply). This excludes products supplied through unauthorised distributors (known as 'grey market' items), overseas stock or delivered directly from an overseas distributor.

    • I know Kogan was on their list of competitors as the sales staff showed me a few times but this is a grey area, I guess if you are persistent you will be able to get it

Kogan does sell some Australian stock direct like this
Kogan is also a marketplace for grey imports like this
A switched on salesperson shouldn't price match the latter, and I now expect a memo to be circulated from head office to all Optus stores either clarifying the difference or removing Kogan altogether.

        • The sales staff told me they price matched a phone for a really really low price when this deal came about two weeks back because they didn't know any better and that caught up on them

  • That's pretty cool. Any idea if this covers sales as well?
I also know that the Becextech phones are usually on Kogan anyways, under name Eclipse BT Technology, not all theyre offerings but still quite a few.

    • As long as the RRP is there I believe they will do it

  • Any price match deals on Pixel 5 or iPhone 12?

    • +1

If they are 5G phones then I don't see why not

      • +1

sorry i meant is there any good sites/deals right now for those phones that I can tell optus to price match lol

  • Then why didnt you post the kogan deal and put optus price match in the notes?. Next we see office works policy posted as a deal.

    • Because you can only post one link and the point of this is that you can now price match 5G phones, what would be the point of showing a Samsung deal only….

    • +1

The Officeworks Policy Update was posted as a deal originally…then it was moved after hundreds of comments and upvotes.

I honestly don't mind these types of posts, not everyone reads the discussion area but this information is actually useful and worth sharing to the wider OzB community that visits.

I've reported my own post so it can be deleted.

That is the honourable thing to do.

  • Thanks for the tip. I may try next time in store :)

  • can i clarify, if you get two contracts and the second sim is 50% off.. you're saying the plan is half price throughout the contract for that 2nd phone?

    • +1

The 50% discount should only apply to the plan not the phone repayments. So say the plan is $49 + $50 phone repayments, you only get the 50% discount on the $49 bringing it to a total of $74.50 for that second service.

  • Moved to forum, fair call as no set price in title.

  • To be honest, even if they down the price by 30%… They aren't even at a loss.
Phones plans and shit are hell over priced nowadays. Contracts for THIRTY SIX months. Meanwhile, phones are released like every 3-4 months

5G is patchy at best and most of the time you will convert back to 4G. The Au 5G is not a true 5G, and as such all phones purchased now, do not have the capabilities of the proper mmwave 5G. You are tossing away money for egocentric purposes
