Modern Desk (That Fits into Living Area Decor) for WFH

Hi all,

A bit random.

I need a new WFH desk, considering I’ll probably be working from home for the next 6 months minimum.

The desk will be in an area of a ‘modern’ house that has foot traffic.

Not that we will have visitors, but currently I have a cr*p desk and it looks awful in the space.

Ideally it’s quite compact. Maybe 120 long and less than 60 deep.

There are some cool businesses who have pivoted and now creating desk that you fit together without tools, which look cool. So many something like this.

What have others purchased? Any recommendations?

I will need a nice chair to match as well, so feel free to recommend this too

Thank you

Recommend an electric adjustable standup desk that sits on top of any other desk. They cost around $700 and will do your back and overall health wonders.

  • I just recently bought and installed the below yesterday. Just kept it simple. Didn't want to spend too much.
Able to support the dell monitors and stands from the latest ozb deals.
I've set the stands at the high point ˜72 cms.

    • wow nice set up. Didnt know ipad pro with usb-c hub can support 2 monitors. Which usb-c hub do you use?

      • The set up is for my wfh using work laptop for 2 screens.
Unfortunately not an ipad pro but samsung tab s6.
With the hub connected it runs the samsung dex desktop experience.
The hub I've used is one of these https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/468546

It can only run one monitor as my hub has one hdmi input only. Not sure if it can run two screens if the hub has 2 hdmi.

  • Buy a standing desk frame. Pick tabletop from anywhere.

https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/skarsta-desk-sit-stand-white-s3… would be my pick, it's probably the most modern looking Ikea desk.

    Plus sit/stand

    • Came here to post this - I have two colleagues who bought this and they love it.

    • I like the features of that Ikea desk.

  • We did something similar to the wheeled one in this photo (Just the shorter version and white legs). It's the Barkaboda kitchen benchtop.

  • I bought the IKEA Norden gateleg table before covid hit and its been terrific. I actually put wheels on the bottom so we can compact it down if we need to use only one side, or pack it away completely to use the room for other things.
