Lowes $10 off Deal Canned -TRADERS10

Cancelled Order

Lowes was alerted early this morning that an employee posted an internal promotional code on the public forum website OzBargain.

This was unauthorized and was a serious commercial breach. We will be pursuing this fraudulent matter with the Police and OzBargain.

We wish to advise that the discount code “Traders10” is for internal usage only. As such, all online orders that have used this code will be cancelled. Any monies taken will be refunded.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Kind regards,

Lowes Menswear

  • Just to clarify the situation regarding to the original deal post on OzBargain.

    • 18 Oct 11:44AM — deal was posted by someone marked as Associated
    • 19 Oct 9:53AM — deal was marked as expired, as reported that the code was no longer working.
    • 19 Oct 5:44PM — someone commented that an email was received from Lowes (same as BewareOfThe Dog's above)
    • 19 Oct 6:27PM — OP of the deal disabled his/her OzBargain account
    • 19 Oct 6:32PM — OP of the deal requested the deal to be removed
    • 19 Oct 7:25PM — deal unpublished

OzBargain has so far not received any correspondence from Lowes. However the deal was unpublished to protect the OP of the deal as he/she is currently associated with Lowes and would like to distant him/herself from the situation.

Feel free to use this forum thread to discuss the situation & Lowes' refunding process.

    • Thank you Scotty.

20 Oct 6:00am - OP enters Ecuador embassy and declares asylum?

    • 19 Oct 6:27PM — OP of the deal disabled his/her OzBargain account
19 Oct 6:32PM — OP of the deal requested the deal to be removed

I guess the request would be via email then? If the account was disabled, can you still use the site to make requests of this nature?

      • Correct. The request was sent via email.

Thanks for the clarity. I must commend you on how open and transparent you are about this. Especially since you have no reason to be.

Well they better refund the money quicker than it took to get processed.

I think the OP got scared of losing their job and getting serious consequences and took it down

  • +5

Didn’t even bother with this last night as it wasn’t hard to crystal ball that the offer would be handbraked.

  • +1

    Not surprised tbh

  • It would be interesting to see what cause of action they could have against OzB. Sounds like whoever wrote it was fuming and the tone became slightly softer towards the end.

Just clicked on their website for the first time. It's kind of like Harris Scarfe styles?

    • I think its just a empty threat. Probably for people to know not to post things like that again

      • And it's only 10% discount? There's a pop up when I clicked on the website saying there's 10% discount on first order anyway.

        • Yeah a pitiful 10%. I would have thought it would have brought new customers in at a smaller expense than marketing if anything. A fuming attitude would turn people off the store altogether.

        • Was $10 per item, multiple items possible per order, thousands of clicks for Deal - each with potential multiple orders.

Comments showed people placing multiple orders & $60 off order.

10% off first order for subscribing to Lowes newsletter is usual offer.

It would be interesting to see what cause of action they could have against OzB

To me it sounds like they're not so much pursuing OzB, but more pursuing the OP/employee with the assistance of Ozb and the police- "We will be pursuing this fraudulent matter with the Police and OzBargain". I'm not super surprised as it was supposed to be an internal thing.

      From original post

I just took on my responsibility as a member of this community to maybe help some people out with a code I knew worked

OP nor anyone has the responsibility to post or owes anyone this favour. It's ok to be selfish at times, your job is more important than others saving a few bucks.

      • I wonder if, worst case scenario, a precedent will ever be sent where users of inappropriate codes can be prosecuted in some form.

        • Interesting thought. I doubt it will ever come to prosecuting each individual code user when it’s an amount like $10. In this case IMO it’s a bit grey whether it’s fraudulent on behalf of each code user, as they don’t necessarily know that the code isn’t intended to be used by them, although they could probably presume the company doesn’t intend to just ship stuff to their house for free. If the users know for sure that the code is not intended for their use, and their using it deceptively, it is actually fraudulent.

It reminds me of this Spotlight ‘deal’ https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/555327
I used it in store and questioned why the company would want to give $20 items out. I wondered if they were trying to make their turnover look better, but later it seemed that it was only intended for some members, presumably those who’d spent a fair bit.

It’s not always clear as a user of a code whether it’s intended or not as places like Myer and DJs do give $10 vouchers to all members from time to time,

          • @morse: Apparently it was "$10 per item, multiple items possible per order" and possibly multiple orders, as it was free shipping. So its wasnt just a loss of $10 per customer.

            • @Ughhh: Yeah, that's a big loss if the orders went through and I suspect most people knew that wasn't the intended use of the code. I suspect most orders didn't get sent, but I think the big hit will be the labour cost for Lowes in terms of the time to cancel all the orders and update their stock itinerary etc. I doubt the individual users of the code would be prosecuted, unless maybe if one person tried to get hundreds/thousands of dollars worth of things.

        • Watched How The Mp3 Changed Music

In the past, the recording industry took cases against individuals for downloading music from file serving sites. Mainly to scare people from downloading "illegally". It wasn't a great look taking grandmothers to court, bad PR for their businesses, probably cost them more than they recovered…

Not good idea to scare away potential customers. So unlikely.

      • +2

Yeah, I feel a bit sorry for OP. I suspect they didn’t think it through before posting. I kinda doubt they realised how much it would cost Lowes in things like labour costs to fix the issue. It seems like they were looking for popularity on OzB, which is a bit sad, but not uncommon. Unless of course they are a disgruntled employee fully aware of what they were doing, which is also possible.

        • It was unwise for a Deal to be posted by an employee of the business, knowing it could potentially cost their business a large amount of money ($10 per item, multiple items possible per order, thousands of clicks for Deal - each with potential multiple orders), at a time where many businesses may be struggling. It could affect the employment of others at the business at a time of high unemployment.

Although most orders were cancelled (at least one order of schoolwear was for c&c - reported in a comment as ready to collect) - saving Lowes a lot, dealing with this matter will still cost Lowes plenty.

Possibly the OP was a disgruntled employee. There was little benefit to them in disclosing an internal code. It was very likely the huge number of orders would be cancelled, as commented in the Deal. There was just great risk in identifying themself as an employee.

Most would take the less risky path of saying a friend in the business had given them the code. Always best to cover your back / tracks!

Lowes will likely try to obtain the details of the member from Ozbargain. A Court Order may be sought for that information. Can't imagine OB could stop that information from being disclosed. (But whether that information is correct is a different matter.)

May be a sackable matter for the Deal's OP. Costs could be sought to be recovered. Police may be involved, as Lowes consider it fraud.

Best wishes to the Deal's OP👍

  • anyone has the cancellation e-mail screenshot?

  • +3

Maybe Lowes should not have such a weak method of offering employee discounts. I mean, seriously…. you just enter a code that is usable by anyone without any verification they are an employee? Brilliant. Ghetto security if I ever saw it.

    • +1

it literally worked for gift cards as well hahahaha

  • +2

The code gave $10 off per item not 10%. There was also a site wide free shipping promotion on the site. So lots of people where posting about free socks and $14 items for $4 etc.

    • Now I see the title has been updated. $10 off and free shipping, that's way better than just 10% off

  • Lowes. The king of the tight-arses.

I used to drive past their HO (Princes Highway, Arncliffe) for years and it never changed. It just looked dead and rundown. I guess that's what you have to do to keep the track pants cheap

    1) This is a Civil matter. It's not Fraud - no-one lost any money. NSW Police won't be involved nor interested. Lowes are just talking shite.

    2) Ozbargain won't hand over evidence without a Court order, and hopefully the OP masked her/his identify so it's impossible to find.

    3) It's 100% Lowes fault for releasing a code that works on the whole site for every product.

    4) Lowes should have handled this a lot better, issuing 20% off codes to those who bought things with this Voucher. Step. One issued everyone with a 50% off Voucher when the same thing happened to them. Kudos to Step. One -that was the RIGHT way to handle this.

    5) Their Bateau Bay shop just closed permanently this month.

I haven't shopped at Lowes for years, & the way they handled this will make sure I won't shop there for many future years to come.

has anyone else not received the email nor refund? Lowes has some serious IT issues if they can't send out an email to all affected customers

Mine still says processing. No email or refund. Might yet get shipped.

And paypal refunded but no email yet.

        • Me too, just got my MasterCard refund, they legally have the right to cancel and I considered it a possibility,
even though I just bought some underwear at a discount and paid for the postage, but not being informed that my order was never being sent is Lowe ¬‿¬

@Jimbuscus: I received a refund but they also sent me this email this just now,

            Hello Nathan,

We wanted to give you an update regarding your order No. 145273601.

With the operational challenges that businesses are facing at the moment, we are giving our online store some extra time to pack and ship your order. The additional delay might be compounded by the delivery providers. We will send you a shipping confirmation with your tracking number as soon as your order is dispatched from our online store.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience at this time.

You can read more about shipping information here. If you need any further information, please check out our FAQ.

@nmcc08: I checked the website orders section and it was listed as canceled, after I checked I just got that same email about it being on its way at 9:01AM.

Now after that email if they aren't sending it I'm gonna lose what little respect for them is left.

With no email communication informing me that my order had been canceled, I just received a refund from Lowes for the order amount.

It's not that I am annoyed that I am not getting the order that I paid postage on (monday), it's that I placed an order with Lowes' website several days ago, they took my money straight away and didn't think they needed to inform me that my order had been canceled, if not for the bank notification I would not have known that the order I paid them for was not being sent, this should have been communicated back on Monday when they had made that decision.

I don't feel that I had a right to a good price on these items, but the way they have handled it for the normal customers that literally used a publicly available coupon, something that could have just as easily been auto-filled by the Honey extension. They did not even bother to inform them that the order they are waiting for was never being sent, what a joke of a business, I had shopped at them once before, but have no interest in shopping an online webstore that doesn't send orders while also not informing the customer of a cancellation.

I'v received my refunds as mentioned above, however today I received a messa that my order was delayed?

Received the same email as well. Checking my orders on Lowes shows that they all have been cancelled though. Just waiting on one refund out of four.

  • +3

I also received this email about my order being delayed.
Still no communication from Lowes about my order being cancelled just the email from paypal. This is very poor communication from them, what a disgrace their business is.

  • What a (profanity) funny outcome.
I also remember seeing someone commented about OP "exploiting their employer" LMFAO
