Woolworths Save 15c Per Litre on Fuel When You Spend $100 or more

380

According to their facebook page, Woolworths are offering 15c off a litre off fuel when you spend $100 or more in one transaction. I don't know many more details, except that it says "this weekend." I'm assuming that means until Sunday.

Further to this they are also offering 4 packets of Doritos 175g for $5! Nachos all round :)

doesnt anyone else think that all these coles and woolies extra fuel discounts just proves 3 things:

    • we are getting ripped off at the supermarket
    • we are getting ripped off at the petrol station
    • ACCC/ASIC/Fair trade etc are toothless

If Coles and Woolworths were abusing their market power to lift the prices of fuel through linking to discount vouchers, wouldn't Mobil, BP, United and Liberty service stations have consistently cheaper fuel?

  • Sweet, good deal (as well as the chippies!!)

  • stock up on the discounted raid auto dispenser and woolworths mobile vouchers then fill up your empty jerry cans on the way home with all your cheap fuel…

    • Ok where to buy cheap Jerry cans any ideas ?

      • Looking for some myself. will post back if I do.

  • It's not worth it guys. Think about this logically - if you buy $60 of stuff and split it into 2 x $30 transactions, you will get 2 x 8c vouchers = 16c off (effectively). With this deal, you have to spend $40 more, but get 1c less. If you bought $90 of stuff and split it into 3 transactions, you would get 3 x 8c vouchers, which IMO is better than 1 x 15c voucher. Makes no sense.

This isn't an exercise in straight arithmetic.

We spend quite a lot on groceries - so at the moment, I've got plenty of Woolworths and Coles 8c vouchers which won't all get used.

A 15 cent voucher will be good for me - as I'll put 150 litres of fuel into a vehicle saving me an EXTRA $10.50 over using an 8c voucher. I'll also play the extra 4c/litre game (no brainer if you're buying lots of petrol - even at the extortionate W/W petrol station mark-ups). That fuel will last me 3 or more weeks (I hope).

On the other hand, if I didn't do a whole lot of grocery shopping AND I drove a lot AND I had a car with a small fuel tank - there is little marginal benefit in spending extra to get the BIG voucher. As you suggest, it can be better to split purchases to ensure that you've got plenty of 8c vouchers instead. As OzBargain devotees, we get used to calculating the spoils of bargain hunting!

Yes, I suspect that the lowest price for petrol at W/W will rise to coincide with this offer AND all the non-supermarket-linked outlets will happily follow along. But I do need to use petrol even when I wouldn't trust Woolworths or Coles NOT to misbehave on pricing.

      • There's nothing on the voucher that states that you can't sell it or transfer it to another person. I used to sell the 10c vouchers on eBay back in 2006 when Coles had them - I think I got about $4 or $5 each for them.

        • Provided you go for a regular receipt. Many people have it end up on their everyday rewards card in order to qualify for extra QFF points and better everyday rewards status for those "recipient only" promos they often run.

      • Do you happen to drive a tank?

        • It's called dual fuel tanks. Plenty of 4WDs have them like Landcruiser, etc.

    • I don my grocery shopping every Sunday anyways, and its always over $100, so its a great deal for me!

  • can you buy woolies phone voucher and gift cards totaling $100 and still get the 15 cent voucher?

    • yup thats what i pointed out above.
