Have you descaled the machine lately? Could also try back flushing though I'm not sure how it works on this machine. Alternatively if it's still under warranty you could contact Delonghi for a fix/replacement

      • It about 2 years old and yes i did everything to fix it like descale change the water flow meter etc, Service Centre asking around $250 to fix the problem!

        • +3

Sounds like air in the lines (use a blown up zip lock bag and push the bag down into water tray, making a seal, to force water/ air through the lines).

Alternatively a blocked portafilter (clean with a toothbrush).

    • +1

Pump sounds like its running dry, enough water in the tank? As the above comment try a descale and backflush.

Half price for a reason I guess

If it's not a 'permanent flow problem', I'd even guess your grind is probably too fine or you're putting too much in the basket (or both). As something so simple.

This is a pressurized basket, so you can't use 'espresso' ground beans in it. You need to have a coarser grind.

This used to happen to me (with this machine) whenever I ground too fine. It's a bit weird. I now hate pressurized baskets after having a new machine with a normal basket. They lack the full flavour.

But try making the grind coarser. This machine cuts out (that error in that video as well) when the backpressure is too high (grind too fine). Happened to me all the time. Got annoying. Worse as it got older which may mean the pump starts to lack the same amount of 'oomf' it has when new.

    • I had that problem and removed the filter from the water tank

  • so no grinder right? for anyone that owns, do you buy pre grinded beans or a separate grinding machine?

    • +5

I don't have this model, but similar. I bought a separate grinder, Breville Smart Grinder and it works well.

      • cheers :)

How long do you personally think frozen beans are ok to be used before taste starts to get affected. I.E. buying in bulk

        • +1

Not too sure as I don't do that myself. I get a monthly delivery and they're freshly roasted, not too pricy either. I use Pablo & Rusty and I initially signed up from a deal I found on here. Noticeably good coffee.

Fresh-ground beans is the biggest factor. Don't freeze them. You'd be better buying fresh-ground than upgrading your brewing mechanism.

That said, I also have a Breville Smart Grinder and recommend it thoroughly.

@[Deactivated]: If you vacuum seal before freezing, then defrost before releasing the vacuum, beans will be perfectly fresh.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Never had any issues freezing beans. Just have to seal them and when you take it out, allow them to come back to room temperature before opening. I usually take them out the day before I intend to use them.

If there's an aldi close by, just buy their Lazzio beans as you go.

Wonder if it will be honoured considering their website shows this as out of stock, and there's no stock levels in the ebay listing

I had one of these for a few years (before getting a BES920).

Note they have a pressurized filter basket, which means you cannot use 'espresso grind' in it. It's waaay too fine.

You need somewhere in between espresso and filter grind. They work 'ok', but the amount of coffee is in the double basket isn't a true double shot.

There are people who have modded it for a non pressurized basket but you do need to take the retainer plastic bit in the group head out (which actually requires some drilling).

So if you want something that actually works as a proper unpressurized espresso machine, skip this.

You're paying for the automatic milk cappuccino system that attaches to it.

It's not 'bad' by any means at this price. But you can probably get something better now.

    • Make the hole in the bottom of the basket bigger
I used a small drill bit
      Its an easy fix

      • That does not change it from a pressurized to a non-pressurized basket. That makes it some weird thing.

Non-Pressurized baskets have multiple holes Pressurized baskets are designed the way they are for a reason. Some for non pressurized normal baskets.

        • well it works, even if it may not be as scientific as you want it to be
But it lets you have the finest grind and pack as much in there as tight as you can and it works beautifully

        • It would actually, if the hole is big enough the basket itself wouldn't be increasing pressure. The inner layer of the pressurised filter has the multiple holes you are talking about, and this is still there.

Source : have chopped up a delonghi filter before

  • Not honoured - Outta stock it wont process

You're guessing or you got a cancellation email?

I ordered and havent seen any comms yet following order confirmation.

      • -1

Thanks for getting in touch! I've just had a look into the stock levels of this one, and can confirm that we're all sold out at this stage.

I do apologise for any disappointment, but hope you can find something else you love!

        • Samantha
  • Thanks op, I got one, gonna try modify for unpressurised basket.

Just received the cancellation email from Myer. Also called up and they said that no stock is available nationally.

@adr8 please mark the deal as out of stock

      Updated, thanks.

  • I haven't received an email yet, are they just taking their time sending out cancellation emails? I ended up ordering a Gaggia New Classic for $522 so I sure hope this order is cancelled.

    • I bought this one from eBay - no messages yet.

      • I bought mine from eBay and got the cancellation message yesterday.

I bought from Myer - got cancellation email just before.

How can their website be so bad…. stock/inventory issues and i had to reset my password multiple times - they lock accounts not logged after a period of time which they dont say how long, then the reset process didnt work in chrome for me (i couldnt click into the email field to enter my email). Trying to check the order status on Thursday (after ordering on Wednesday) it made me do another password reset… all up i did 6 password resets LOL

Second time i've purchased from myer and second time order cancelled several days later due to stock.

I just asked them to delete my account and right to be forgotten as im over it….. farkme

    Just bought the Sunbeam em5300s

  • back in stock again.

It was never in stock and still isn't even though the listing is up. Myer are just trash at running their online store.

Quick review. It’s an OK machine, does what is expected, and coffee is OK. (See last paragraph)

    Thoughts:
    - great easy clean button on milk jug
    - poor pressure for fine grinds (gone from a fine espresso grind of 9, up to 20, which is closer to a fine percolator grind.
    - easy to setup and use
    - able to use top shelf local coffee beans instead of the pod crap.
    - factor in that this DeLonghi is 100 times better than any Nespresso pod machine, which I used as an interim machine.

That is coming from the indignity of a forced downgrading from an Expobar Office (Full manual commercial type) I used for 9:years, which produced bloody amazing coffee. Long story, the Expobar went to “coffee heaven”……it had a great run.
