[Prime] Gloomhaven Card Game $138 Delivered @ Amazon AU

170

Hey guys,

Is currently the highest rated game on BGG (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/174430/gloomhaven). At $138 its definitely a bargain imo.

From my research, it's suitable for people/groups that are into card management/dungeon crawlers with RPG elements and so probably not for everyone. Can be played solo or up to 4 players.

Potentially a duplicate of this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/573806, however I thought it warrants its own post.

Camelcamelcamel shows that last time it was this price was about 2 years ago: https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B01LZXVN4P

I believe it's the last day of the 25% off, so get in while you can :)

  • Great game. I would recommend starting with Jaws of the Lion if you are new to complex boardgames as it provides a better introduction to the ruleset. Be warned this game can monopolise your gaming time with friends if started.

    • I think I would also definitely start with Jaws of the Lion if it was cheaper, from the reviews it's said to be easier set up, less admin/management and easier to get started. Personally, I bought the game to play solo so I don't mind taking a bit of extra time.

  • Also wouldn't recommend this solo, it's better with more players - especially if you're keen to see all the game has to offer. Be prepared to sink a lot of time in though, so like @dogboy says, it may be better to start with JOTL.

    • I hope to play this game over many years :) Can't wait to receive my copy.

    • I've been playing it solo controlling 3 characters just fine.

I also backed the Kickstarter for Frosthaven, even though I am nowhere near to finishing Gloomhaven!

      • Great to know this can be done! I think I'll give this a smash for a while before thinking about Frosthaven (although hopefully Gloomhaven gets a rules update to make them semi-compatible). Given the hours this might involve I'm happy to wait for Frosthaven to come out, get mad scores on bgg, and finally go on sale…although I still might not have finished Gloomhaven by then

  • Great deal. It's a fantastic game with a lot of content but I would not recommend this as a gateway games for those starting a board game. It's a complex and long game with a lot to keep track of and setup gets tedious unless you dedicate a space for it.

  • I was going to get Jaws of the Lion, but this deal plus the 10 off for the app deal was too appealing. I've played advanced boardgames before, but my partner hasn't, so it might be an interesting experience. Although I'm also happy to pilot multiple characters solo if I need to.

  • Great board game especially if you have a group of 2-4 people that would commit to playing and can meet on a sort of regular basis. Be warned though, its very difficult to play other games because this is such a long, yet a very fun game. It's not a game that is unfair, and the combat mechanics just clicks with me.

There is a mechanic to prevent alpha players from running the entire session which is why I would highly recommend it to any group of 4 or under to give it a shot if they are looking for a more complex game.

For anyone that buys this, I would highly recommend downloading the app Gloomhaven Helper. It reduces the number of pieces, reduces set up time and improves visibility.

  • Thank you for posting this! I've been wanting Gloomhaven for a long time, but couldn't justify the price.

  • Missed it already… bugger….
