Good Easy Cushy Job That Pays over 85k No Degree No Qualification Just Get in The Door Type Deal

So working life is going great but I always want more so I'm here to ask for advice on any jobs that don't require any degree or qualifications that I can maybe get into that pays more than 85k.. Not even making half that now..

Bonus points if the work is pretty lax labour wise but honestly I'm open to anything (no funny answers) huuurr durrr no drug dealer, hand jobs or other stupid answers for jobs.

I was thinking of getting into mining but I think all those jobs are high skill jobs and I can't drive continuously for too long at least right now because of health fatigue reasons but that will clear up once I put my health in the right direction and stop abusing and over exerting my body for no reason.

So anybody want to chime in with what they do and if it's easy to get into and does not require any barriers to entry like a degree or qualification.. I'm fine with doing short courses maybe if the payout is great but I'm not going back to uni again for 3 - 5 years if the prospects are shaky.

  • I have no idea if it's been said before as I really CBB reading the whole thing, but see if you can get a job driving trains. The traineeship is paid (close to the salary you're looking for as a trainee) and pays well over your aim.

Jobs don't come up that often (vline just closed their first application window in 5 years) unless you're prepared to bite the bullet and do freight for a few years, but once you're in it's great.

    • As long as you can handle hitting the occasional human due to suicide. This is very common in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane if you get the chance to speak with any train drivers about it. It's not a laughing matter but worth thinking about whether you have the capacity to cope with this.

      • Yeah it's relatively common on the electric trains, not so much on long distance and freight. That being said, it's spread out over a vast number of drivers.

Many have never had one in 40 year careers, some have a couple in training. I think on average you're almost guaranteed to have at least one in your career.

They talk about it in training and generally support you through it if it does happen. Something to consider, but the positives of the job far outweigh the potential negative in my opinion.

Real estate agents and car sales people at dealerships. Why do they even exist? The process would be much easier without having to deal with them. Cut them out, reduce overheads - however with REA, the rules may need to be re-written, haha.

Have you looked at Defence jobs? Electro tech submariners make 100k per year minimum and you get taught everything. All you need is year 10 English, maths and science. Easy money

    • Agreed. Look up PV cleared cleaners and security guards. around $100K minimum.

      • They have a lot of private security now, old days of seeing a military police officer walk the fence of a base to check for damage is long gone. Now got a fat 40-50yr old bloke on a golf cart, who isnt even looking and just doing it to tick a box. I

I’m an aircraft refueller. 0 skill and education required, but due to the nature and responsibilities of the job, we are one of the highest paid at the airport, including most of the pilots.

Another good gig at the airport is working up in the towers as an air traffic controller. I believe that is a 0 skill, year 10 minimum upon application. They’re pretty on-par to what we earn as a base salary, except I rather be hands on with aircraft as opposed to looking at them from a distance

    • Has your line of work downsized or is the commercial airplanes still keeping these jobs stable?

      • Work has definitely dropped, as has Aviation as a whole due to Covid. It will pick up again, it’s just a matter of when

    • +7

Air Traffic Controller = Zero Skill lol. I looked in to the training pathway via the Air Force for Air Traffic Control and it is pretty intense with a high dropout rate and it also requires a high level of ability to think in 3D. Also one of the highest stress jobs going around.

      • +3

Air Traffic Controller = plenty of skill and responsibility and stress. As pointed out, very few will make it through to the final round, so I wouldn't call that "zero skill".
You are paid based on the huge amount of responsibility you have, make a major error and you can kiss your work and potentially life goodbye.

        • +1

Sorry, what I meant was that no prior qualifications or education are needed, not that the job didn’t entail any skills

          • @antik: All good. I think the OP want to work less hard heh

            • -1

@dirtybigbjelke: Yeah ATC is definitely high stress job.

Even though the job is mostly robotic and there are lull periods that one high stress period might kill me and others so not good idea.

Honestly Customer Service Attendant or Cleaning train carriages is what I am aiming for now.

Mining would be ideal but requires more work aka relocating and getting a HR license for starters.

The actual fly in fly out for work thing does not bother me that is a bit of a perk tbh I like travel.

          • @antik: As an ATC who has worked at one of the busiest training airports in the Southern Hemisphere, it is one of the most rewarding jobs you'll ever do - however it is not a comfortable "8-5" job.
Pushing Tin gives an interesting perspective of the stresses involved.

              @Walleee-y: Rewarding how?

Does it get boring just having radio chat and looking at a command prompt esque terminal all day?

              • @AlienC: Job satisfaction.

There's no Ctrl + Z to undo mistakes. Boring is good. It's when it's not boring that the job gets interesting.

  • +3

In all seriousness, do a part time course if you want to increase your earning power. I've a time consuming job, endless chores and 3 kids and I still find time for it. If you want to earn more money you need to make yourself a more valuable asset through learning skills.

Have you thought about running your own business/self-employment? I know plenty of people without any formal qualifications that make over 100k PA but it took them years of hard work and determination. If you have passion for what you do, this is achievable, if not, don't bother going down this path.

That requires a good work ethic.

Just get any job where the union is involved. They're pretty good at strong arming companies into overpaying unqualified "workers" who don't do much. I worked in Engineering at a Container terminal at the port here and unqualfied workers were easily clearing six figures (some were on $190k). So just remember that next time you hear about Stevadores going on strike, most of them know if they lose their job they would never find an easier job getting paid more than 90% of australias population.

    • True I should have gotten into that while it was good.

Not sure if it is still exploitable if it is I would like to know more.

Too busy wasting time on ozbargain and other websites have gotten me now until this predicament.

But that's OK it took me a long time to realise that going the hard way and raising the difficulty is only admirable and respectable in the gaming community.. In real life it's just called being stupid with your life.

Ah well at least I learnt this lesson around age 32 and not when I'm 60 or something.

Lots of people out there still learning their life lessons and doing it hard for stupid reasons others are just unlucky and unfortunate.

      End rant.

  • Anyone mentioned real estate agent yet? Specifically property management.

    • Um. Like 20 times already?

I'm struggling to take this question seriously and there's not enough info like:

What skills do you have (maybe not formal quals on paper but what are you good at?)
    What experience do you have?
What have you tried? (have you tried improving yourself)
You mention health issues/fatigue.. is it a medical issue or you just don't use your time productively? (you mention abuse and exertion for no reason)
What job do you have now? (you say its good, perhaps you can build on that)
    What are your interests?
    Have you completed highschool?

Without much context, it just sounds like you're on low income and want a handout for next to no effort.

Well, I'm further baffled by the volume of seemingly serious responses to this?

  • Sounds like the best job for OP is being a scalper. Right now if you can find and buy a PS5 before launch and sell it during launch in 2 weeks time you will make a boat load of stress free profit. After that looks for AMD new GPU which is also very high in demand.

The ones on $85K+ with no work ethic and did not bother to get a qualification, can f%#k right off.

There is no easy way up the ladder.
People study and/or work very hard to earn what they get paid.

The people in the niche roles with zero qualification are lucky, generally very good at what they do and work hard.

You want $85k? Can you generate $85k of value for your employer? What skills do you bring that are worth $85k?

People at work know who the overpaid, under qualified and lazy people are – as do the lazy people in question.

  • Has anyone mentioned starting a religion? Im not going to scroll all these answers

  • Storeman FIFO

  • From seeing the wages of many individuals from a diverse range of industries as part of my job, I think some of the replies are based on assumption or based on anecdotes for 'high earners' in a field and are not representative of LIKELY earnings (especially when considering what was written in the original post about the OPs motivation levels). For instance, whilst some traffic controllers CAN earn $85K doing lots of overtime, I've dealt with quite a few who just do not get the hours to earn anywhere close to $85K.

I might go through and reply to other specific posts later, but $85K is not as easy to earn as many people are suggesting unless you are extremely motivated AND self-assured, or you have qualifications that are in demand, or you have connections, or you are very lucky. If it were that easy then the median weekly personal income (which is lower than the average full time earnings due to the casualisation of the workforce and increase in 'gig-workers') would be higher than it is.

    • Oh shit. Just talked with someone in a cushy govnt health job second year in on 70k

      • Government health is pretty good but you need to have good social skills.. Can't be off your game once or the whole system and chain falls apart.

Government seems a good choice to get above 70k.

  • Any luck on job?

    • Nope still same job

      • Wat would be 85k aftertax be

        • The estimated tax on your taxable income is $18,092

          Your taxable income: $85,000
          Income tax payable: $18,092
          Medicare levy payable: $1,700
Your income after tax & Medicare levy: $65,208
          Your marginal tax rate: 32.5%

          Source: https://moneysmart.gov.au/income-tax/income-tax-calculator

TL;DR So around about $65k take home pay after tax and Medicare levy taken away from an 85k annual income.

  • FT tram driver on the Gold Coast pays ~$85K including shift penalties. Only need a car license and they pay you for the six weeks or so of training. Four days on two days off but you do work a lot of weekends. Pretty easy gig you could do in to your 70s.

I'm not going to suggest Air Traffic Control, because it's highly competitive and definitely not an easy job. BUT, Airservices also employs "communications specialists" who are responsible for on request services over the HF radio. E.g. a pilot is flying in a remote part of central Australia and wants to know what the weather is like at their destination, you'd be the person answering their request on the radio. Pay is very good, not 100% sure how much but definitely over $85k pretty quick and probably over $100k in a couple of years. Airservices provide all the training and the requirements are minimal, you'd just need to get past the interview process (which would probably not be easy). Far less stress as you're not actually separating aircraft at all. Job is in Brisbane or Melbourne.

I haven't done this job so can't give much more info that that, but I am a pilot so I thought I'd share a relatively unknown job with you guys.

    • -4

Honestly this sounds like an awesome job might consider it.

Will just have to research which areas the jobs are in so as to avoid natural disaster zones.

      • Like I said, the job is in either Brisbane or Melbourne. They have centres in both locations, each one does half of Australia's airspace. You'd be assigned a section of airspace to provide the information service to, and I doubt it's something you'd get to choose.
