UnOfficial guide to OzBargain Oct 2020 Ed.

Fans and Haters (but addicts) of OzBargain

I thought I start a post to share our observations and invite fellow OzBargainers to share their Likes/Dislikes/Rants for Oct 2020.

Here are some of mine, feel free to expand on these:

  • Member Since < 24hours
  • Deals - Store Rep/Associated posting SPAM then say, we offer good deal
  • Forums - gaming the system, insurance/accident, ripped off when price dropped, entitlement, my “friend”
  • OP/Commenters becomes fragile in receiving negs for their posts
  • Doesn’t search past posts and asks the same questions in forums
  • “My first post, please be gentle” when wiki pages saids no.
  • Tesla car deals +votes vs other brands.
  • Most of the Sat/Sun posts seems more like informercial posts than deals 😆

What should one do?

  • Try not to be lazy and search before posting
  • Try not to get upset with getting Negs, you should learn and post better next time. There is a saying “the only one who never makes mistakes is the one who never does anything.”
  • Be prepared to be Negged if you do post or comment, we are all Strangers on the Internet behind a keyboard.
  • Don’t get too attached to your post or comments, after a day or so, it’ll be “forgotten” and some other new post will get our attention ;)

Over to fellow OzBargainers to share the own experiences and observations via the comments

^Title and Description may to change without notice 😆

    Meh?

Comments

  • There's an official get started guide already. If people don't read that, what makes you think they'll read this?

    • No idea :) wanted to test the waters. Forums seems more “alive” than wiki.

    • That's like reading the T&Cs or the manual, no one reads it till you're fked and members ask what did the T&Cs/manual say.

we are all Strangers Warriors on the Internet behind a keyboard.

    Fixed

    • Yeah well. I thought it was implied 🤣

From that, I can think of
+ People too lazy to read voting guidelines and negs the deal because they don't like it.
+ Some people have no patience and immediately negs a deal when it's too early to judge/starts at a later time.
+ Okay with additions to the subs for games, spams neg vote for additions to streaming services

    • -1: "This is OzBARGAIN not OzRRP" :)

      • The only reply to that is; “bEiNg iN StOcK mAkEz iT a BaRgAiN!!!”

From what I learned comment votes cancel each other out, so people usually think oh it’s bad, but a comment vote can have 19 upvotes and 20 downvotes and show as -1 votes.

So it’s difficult to judge how you are voted on comments so I would recommend people to just focus on the ‘deal’ votes which actually shows how many are up & down.

I think you get a better idea on how people are responding by reading all the comments, but some people find it too much to read all comments and so end up just leaving a comment identical to another or misunderstand completely and just leave an angry comment sometimes so better to just be polite and understand that it’s just the internet.

  • Don't focus too much on what people think of your comments as someone is going to come in and rain on your parade just because they can.

  • forums are also for SCAM! and weighted polls

You forgot the RRP posts for 30?0 video cards, PS5, Xbox series X/S, Nintendo anything with the comments section full of “bEiNg iN StOcK mAkEz iT a BaRgAiN!!!”

Or posting a story to the forum, being totally wrong, not getting the answer/sympathy you were looking for or kicking an own goal and going on the offensive and fighting with everyone that replies.

    • Yes, on your 2nd point that reminds me of "reality shows" :D

you should learn and post better next time.

    OP should take own advice

    These two are particular problems.

The first is usually inhabited by society's pests who either simply don't know how the world works, expect that "someone else" must always carry liability, are one level above scammers, and/or who act impetuously and then expect to be able to get a better deal after the fact.

The second (ironically often related to the first) don't seem to understand that when you float a ridiculous idea, people will call them out on it. Doubly so where that idea is related to one of the first points and they're basically looking for ways to shirk their responsibilities and therefore effectively imposing additional costs on everyone else.
