Is It Likely Surface Laptop Will Discount on Black Friday?

love metal material, but I can never be use to Mac OS.

Thinking buy a surface laptop and give my current laptop to my mum, but it's really expensive for those specs.

Quite possibly, they usually have a 20% off sale every month or 2.

Sometimes it's 15% off but 20% off is the best discount you can get (plus your 5% off JB Hi-Fi gift cards); that's how I got my Surface Laptop 3 15"

Yes between 10 - 20 percent off is usual!

      • how is the laptop.?

I saw some stocks sold by kogan are reasonable priced, is it good idea to kogan?

        • Laptop's great apart from battery life.

No idea about them. I bought mine from JB Hi-Fi; easier in case something goes wrong with the laptop

        • I have the Laptop 3, agree apart from the battery it's awesome.

        • Be aware there's 'Surface laptop', 'surface laptop 2', and 'surface laptop 3', then early next year surface laptop 4 will release with seriously a better processor of AMD 4000 series.

It looks as though the cheap ones on Kogan are the old versions. Old = less battery life, (much) slower. e.g. first gen surface has just 2 cores (7th Gen Intel Core i5 7200 = 2 cores). And AMD 3000 series laptop chips are not very good using a lot of power for slightly below intel performance. AMD 4000 series chips are really about twice as fast as AMD 3000 series, and about 4 times as fast as surface laptop 1 chips, and even with the much better performance they still last a lot longer on battery. The recent tech generations have made a real jump after intel stagnated for 5 years.

I've been waiting and waiting for surface laptop 4 with new AMD chips but they didn't release in october as they have in previous years, it's bumped to early next year.

If you want a computer that's similar now but provides up to date chips (ie fast, long battery life) checkout the lenovo ideapad s540. There's a current deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/581064 and there's a previous deal where I discuss the laptop in more detail https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/578125

That's S540 also has a high spec screen, and it's twice the computer (in processor power, hard drive, and RAM), for 60% of the price, and same weight with longer battery life. Surface laptop just isn't worth it because their tech hasn't been updated at a time where it really makes a lot of difference.

  • Surface laptop 4 releasing early 2021 - and likely to include the new much faster AMD 4000 series chips with better power efficiency and thus battery life, up to 8 cores instead of 4 .

As well as the s540 I recommended, there's another laptop thats also comparable to surface laptop and on a good deal now.

It's 1.25kg, and bleeding edge intel tech .. which is still much slower than the new AMD chips but at least this has thunderbolt. Another drawback is this is not touchscreen same as the s540. But both are very high quality finish metal body laptops with high resolution tall screens hence the comparison to the surface laptop. Both also have smaller bezels.

The display is also high res 16:10 same as the s540. The 16G 1TB version is $1620 now on ebay sale

Here's the main dell page to checkout the stats more clearly.

Finally there's two more notebooks that I've considered you may want to look at - the huawei matebook pro x 2020 and omg the screen on that is the best I've ever seen on a laptop and you can see it in person at jb hifi. The other one is the huawei matebook 2020 AMD as it has the better chip and is cheaper but screen is not as wow. There are some drawbacks to these but overall they are better than the competition in many ways, but running a huawei device for business work you may have to worry about potential spyware and possibly maybe future support issues. I can elucidate on these models if needed but I would probably steer you toward the s540 or the dell 14 7000 for mainstream support.

I would also recommend to purchase 3 year warranty on the s540 or the dell 14 7000.
