I've requested the more expensive post be removed, and for this to stay up.

            @ngengerous: That's good…

You don't want to take advantage of an old mate…

The human body already provides an all-natural odour, and it's free

    • +2

I'd certainly be free of friends and human contact if I relied on my natural BO…

      • Not your real friends then if their noses haven’t started ignoring the smell of your BO

        • You underestimate the power of Queensland humidity and heat combined with a sweaty guy like myself, thank goodness deoderant exists!

  • +2

This one doesn't have great performance. At this price it may not be too bad, but at full price you can get much better performance out of other scents. I have never personally tried this, but after a bit of research a lot of people say it lasts around 2hrs if you're lucky.

    • I'd be surprised at that because this is EDP, not EDT. The Mont Blanc Legend is an EDT so that probably only lasts a couple of hours.

      • +1

You can get a bit of variance with the strength of EDPs, EDTs and Parfums - as a rule of thumb EDP is longer-lasting than EDT, but there are some long-lasting EDTs and some fleeting EDPs. It pays to check Fragrantica for a review of a scent before you buy to check the longevity.

        • Yeah I just had a look. It has moderate ratings, probably not bad for this price! I've tried Creed and it is very long lasting, so it would be good if this is a good clone.

          • @JoKing: Ha ha, I tried couple of Creeds about 5 years ago in retail store when rare as hen's teeth in Aus let alone Perth. Was about $900 for the 2 and they barely lasted 2hrs on my skin.

Quite amazing how frags react to different skin chemistry.

      • +1

Most of the time EDP last longer, but sometimes EDT can have longevity equal to EDP, and EDP can have Cologne's longevity.
The longevity is an issue here for Mont Blanc Explorer EDP.

    • what type of performance, sir

  • +3

    It’s no VB thirst EDT

    On a more serious note
Armaf Club De Nuit on sale for 44.99 and is compared to creed aventus too

    • Very true. I've got CDNIM, MB Explorer and Aventus to compare - CDNIM is more powerful and a little smokier, but smells a lot more artificial for the first 30 mins. Dries down into a very accurate clone of Aventus, but MB Explorer is a little brighter and fruitier, which I find nicer.

      • What's MB legend like, it's $50. Needs to be an EDT
        Thanks

        • I've found it decent personally - 3-4 hours before it fades away completely. Doesn't last as long as some others, but it smells great while it's there.

See here for more reviews: https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Montblanc/Explorer-52002…

          • @ngengerous: Go Explorer over Legend?

          • +2

@ngengerous: Cheers, probably want something longer lasting, usually get stuff like L'eau D'Issey, Hugo, and don't mind that Versace man Eau Fraiche (just ran out);when they're discounted. May have to see what else they've got, but like that woody citrus fresh type of scent
Cheers, hard to come on here and but not buy more crap, ha

          • @ngengerous: Oops, wrong link! Try thishttps://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Montblanc/Legend-11784.html

            • +2

@ngengerous: picked up the Man Eau Fraiche, mine has literally run out :P
Can't remember what i got it for last time similar i guess.
              Cheers

              • @G-rig: Managed to get Man Eau Fraiche gift set (including 100ml, 10 ml and Versace toiletry bag) from CW last night. Very good recommendation. tested on my skin last night and can still smell the perfume this morning. Thanks.

                • @vicez: No worries, I've only bought that one once and always liked it, represents great value and quality for a chemist warehouse one, nice when on sale so I grabbed a new 100mL too. Sounds good I only saw the set with the 50mL

Creed Aventus Clone. Good one also - just doesnt last too long.

    • How close is this to the Creed Aventus?

I've read that the Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Man is the official Avenue clone

      https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/98599/armaf-club-de-…

Is it wise having both the Armaf Club De Nuit and Mont Blanc Explorer or would it be a waste of money?

      • I wouldn't get both. Very similar.

        • ….doh!!! Already bought

          • @Homr: They are similar - but CDNIM dries down to be a lot smokier and darker, whereas Explorer stays light and fresh. Think of it this way, fragrances don't go bad for decades, pop one in the back of the cupboard for now and you'll be set for years!

            • +1

@ngengerous: Thanks, I still have my Aqua Di Gio that I bought 12 years ago and still trying to finish it. I'm not really a cologne wearer.

              • @Homr: In that case, set for decades!

                • @ngengerous: Thanks good to know, I thought my Aqua Di Gio could go off……..

Would you rate Mont Blanc Explorer as daily wear? or occasional wear? Good for tinder dates?

                  • @Homr: If you keep bottles out of direct sunlight and in a cool place, good quality fragrances can last for well over 10 years and even longer!

I'd say cooler fragrances are generally better for office work or daily use, but this one is nice and bright - great for dates, dinners and parties.

                    • @ngengerous: Oh ok cool, what sort of Cologne do you recommend for daily wear?

                      • @Homr: Personally I go with something like Davidoff Cool Water (bonus, it's pretty cheap too), Armaf Tres Nuit (a clone of Creed Green Irish Tweed) or Versace Pour Homme/Dylan Blue. Generally something fairly light and inoffensive

                        • +1

@ngengerous: thank you, I'll keep a look out for them when they go on sale.

                          How can cologne be offensive?

  • I bought it from Amazon when I saw that post :(.

    • Do what I did and cancel Amazon before it ships! I cancelled within 15 mins and re-bought through CW :)

Edit: Read the reviews and couldn't resist, so bought it :)

    • The opening is pretty close to identical - but about 30 mins in it's about 90% similar to Aventus, but just a little brighter. Club de Nuit after 30 mins is maybe 95% similar to Aventus, but a little bit darker and smokier.

  • +2

Other than the Creed (which is unaffordably expensive) and Armaf CDN, is there any other good & really long-lasting men's fragrance ?

    • +2

It can depend on what your tastes are - there are a lot of very solid choices out there. As G-rig mentioned above, Hugo Boss, Issey Miyake and Versace have some great scents which perform well, and I'd add John Varvatos to that list as well of well-priced, well-performing brands.

      • Gonna have to disagree on John Varvatos being a well performing brand. They tend to be known for lasting only a couple of hours.

        • I've found their bottles to perform well for me personally, but some fragrances perform better on some people than others. I might be one of the lucky ones.

      • @ngengerous you sound like a guy who knows his game.

Can you recommend something for the following profile?

Smells: Wood, earth, warm, leather, whiskey

So far my constant favorites are/have been:

        Baldessarini Ambre
        Kenneth Cole RSVP
        Burberry Touch
        Declaration Cartier

        • +1

Those notes are some of my favourites - but unfortunately lockdowns drove me to explore some of the pricier areas of fragrance more specifically, so most of my recommendations are a little pricier than the average! My favourite pure leather fragrance is Tom Ford Ombre Leather - super strong and rich. For a more rich woody fragrance, Tom Ford Oud Wood is a classic, but the best substitute for me at a reasonable price is Versace Pour Homme Oud Noir - about 75-80% similar. Smells rich, dark, almost a little like incense - definitely try before buying. For some cheaper leathery picks, I like Bulgari Black for something smoother, and Encre Noire is a beautiful pine fragrance for guys.

Just get this and thank me later , long lasting and women seem to love it.

      https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/87377/dior-sauvage-e…

      • Have it. Don't like it. Wearing it smells like I work in a bank. Way too formal.

        • Touche!

        • Have it. and I like it , never heard of a fragrance that makes you smell like you work in a bank before.

  • Still enjoying Bvlgari's Man in Black thanks…

  • +1

I love this fragrance, just hope it doesn't turn into the next Joop or One million (bogan fragrances) because of its hype of being a Aventus clone.

    • It's always a balance… Enjoying the next big fragrance trend while it's still on the rise and jumping to the next one before it becomes way too mainstream!
