DWI Digital Cameras Offering Free Freight/Shipping + Shipping Insurance for Orders over $50

101

Hi guys, was browsing through the DWI website, when I noticed they're offering free shipping + shipping insurance for all orders over $50! Not actually sure when it expires, so just put some arbitrary date of 31/12/11. Couple of things to consider though:

  • Prices are not necessarily the cheapest around, so make sure you do shop around before buying any of their products! I'm also not sure whether they've jacked up the prices of some of their products to accommodate for the free shipping, but there's still some reasonably priced stuff there:

Eg - 7D body only - $1297, JB Hifi direct import - $1368 (inc shipping)

  • They have an extensive range of equipment, but I'm pretty sure that all products are grey imports, so warranty will be an issue. You'll have to deal directly through DWI or their agents in Australia, which I believe is ATECH Distribution, and from what I've researched on whirlpool (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1647952), there were some people who has had problems with warranty claims, so make sure you take that into consideration before any purchases.

Term and conditions listed below for the free shipping and shipping insurance. I've bought some lenses from them before, no complaints, shipping was very fast (though I paid for Fed-Ex shipping back then, not sure how fast this new free shipping will be…)

Enjoy!

    http://stores.ebay.com.au/DWI-Digital-Cameras-Australia

i bought my tammy for $365 delivered in 3days! same lens at Teds? $599.95 ! crazy…

  • The JB Hi-Fi direct import system is such BS atm.

Tried ordering Canon 600D and a couple of higher-end lenses.

5 days ago, they gave an order number. No email confirmation, no australian contact details. No other info since I placed the order. I've messaged them twice about the order status. Have not heard anything back from them.

No charges on my CC, but when I order from DWI, I normally have instant confirmation, shipping info, tracking info, and the item 4-5 days later.

  • DWI is the way to go. Have bought a number of lenses from them, no dramas, fast shipping etc.

  • Bit dodgy. They jacked up the product price. Not saying that happened on all items but I've been looking at the 60D and it used to be 822 + 52 shipping. Now it's 869 including free shipping. Cheaper by 5 bux I guess

Looks like they've also jacked up the prices on their ebay listings..

    • not sure if they somehow link prices indirectly to the exchange rate?
we're below parity with USD now.

i vaguely recall last year when I was looking that prices would fluctuate every couple of weeks or so? might be wrong - but anyone else care to comment?

      • also dont forget floods in thailand… less suply

      • You know what, think you may be right…bloody Aussie dollar is taking a bit of a hit right now…

  • I bought a Nikon P500 from them last Friday and it was free shipping. It's still free shipping but they jacked the price of that camera up by $7 lol. $7 to me RAWR :D

  • This was $268 2days ago, http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProd… including free delivery, mack insurance and free 2 gb sandisk now is $309

What a jack up ass !!

    • might has something to do with the exchange rate? never bought from em before

      • Same happened with the Canon Powershot S95, was $295~ when I was checking earlier and then increased to $314. However the free shipping was not active at that time so wouldnt suprise me to find its just fluctuation in AUD$. Still works out cheaper with the free shipping than prior.

  • Yes, they definitely jacked up the price.
I bought a lens for $909. After discount code, fedex + insurance shipping, I paid $947. Ordered Monday, received on Wednesday, impressed!!!!

On 17th, I checked the same lens, and it is $938.
So it is 8 bucks difference :) Meh!

Not sure how fast the shipping is with this free shipping. I don't think they use Fedex for this free ones.

  • Is it worth getting the Extended Warranty?, how does this work seeing I am buying from a overseas site?

    • It's via Mack1 which from what I understand means you get a quote at a local repair place, send the quote to Mack1 and they will either honour it and pay up or not.

That said you can buy the Mack1 warranty from ebay for cheaper than through DWI however might be worthwhile with the price drop atm.

  • What is the different with this guy http://www.citiwideonline.com/au/
They do alot cheaper, I am assuming they are from same source "china" :)

Also if anyone have experienced, how is Mack insurance work? do they do door-to-door pick up or we have to send to them at our own cost?
    Cheers.

    • Ended up the same price as DWI for my camera after you added in shipping and the mandatory shipping insurance.

I did a fair bit of digging and for the most part all the grey importers worked out to be within $10-20 of each other after you took into account shipping. What many do is list the camera's really cheap but then have high shipping cost to make up the difference.

    • almost the same. i ordered from both, just check which one is cheaper for your stuff you want to buy dont forget add the shipping and go ahead. both are legit.
also eglobalcamera something like that. camera paradise aswell… t dimensions, all of them are good. just dont buy from local store. they rip you off.

    • I'm looking for Olympus TG 810, I think they do pretty good deal compare to others.

  • I have been looking for a Sony HX9V camera.

On the 7Th DWI were A$301 with free shipping, now it is A$366. This is not just the drop in exchange rates…

Even the local Sony store is $357 with Australian support.

    So yes shop around.

I'm considering citiwide ($318), but not sure if it is worth the savings.

    • $357 locally? That's not a bad price….surprised no one had put that up on Ozbargain..;D

  • +1

I was looking into the Nikon 70-200 on their eBay site a couple of days ago, was showing $2212 with free shipping. After doing a bit of research I thought I should call them up to check on stock level before placing the order yesterday. Went home wanting to place the order before seeing that it's been jacked up to $2322. Their website and facebook prices remained the same at 2229, but that doesn't include "handling fee"/paypal charges.

Went with shoppingsquare instead, $2150 delivered, fingers crossed it wont be delayed but I'm expecting the worst.

  • I bought a TX10 for $275 from them on Monday with the free shipping… by Tuesday it was up to $294!

  • I think if you put in the code 'LIKEDWI' you can get free registered shipping now, also, the price of 7d has fallen a bit to $1255 last time I checked, so that's a bit of a bargain I suppose. I've bought a lens from them, it was fine and fast. When I bought another lens and had it sent to a friend in a different adress, someone from DWI actually called me to confirm whether or not it was really me that bought it. Good on.

Edit: no need for LIKEDWI coupon cope now to get free registered shipping, apparently

    Do not use DWI.
I purchased a camera and extended (MACK) warranty 2 years ago. Although I paid under retail and saved heaps I am now left with a broken camera and still receive conflicting advice re: warranty repairs. I’m quite a stickler for the details and even called DWI to confirm all the details regarding their warranty and the Mack extended – I found out last month I was misinformed – and they won’t give me an answer of what I shoud officially do without voiding my warranty in writing…
Although they tell you to take the camera to an authorised repair centre and then they will reimburse you (should have know at this) they won’t – you have to try to recover the money from Mack who say this is only possible if you go through their warranty claims process and DO NOT have the camera repaired anywhere else as DWI says to.
What I’ve learned is to use an Australian importer who has offices here and local warranty claims and repairs here. This way you actually get what you pay for.
Please message me if you have any questions as I’m happy to help.

    • Mack1 International Warranty
      http://www.mackcam.com/repairs/international-repairs.htm

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

      And from DWI's site
Our local agent ATECH offers a localised service to help you avoid the hassles of international shipping, should you require repairs for your product.

However that would be under the standard 12month warranty.

So from what I can glean from your post as it's a bit messy is you bought a camera and it had an issue outside of the 12 month warranty but within the extended warranty. Maybe you got some misinformation but it's always been pretty clear, extended warranty you talk to Mack, normal warranty you talk to DWI. And afaik DWI are correct with international warranties Mack1 ask you to get it checked locally, send the itemised estimate to them and then they can approve the repair. But you need to follow Mack's process as that's who the extended warranty is with.

It's not really any different to buying an extended warranty from say Harvey Norman and I've had painful dealings with those as well so just saying go to an Australian Importer isn't always any better with warranty claims. Hell in Australia you are meant to be covered for the lifetime of an expected product so we don't really need extended warranties however we buy them because its too much hassle trying to get our statutory warranties enforced.

So to end this, I don't actually see what your problem is other than not following process. DWI aren't going to comment on Mack's repair process in writing in case it has changed or is wrong. DWI are not Mack. And it's pretty clear that your extended warranty is with Mack so you go talk to Mack and follow their international repair process.
