Dodo Fetch Box - Is Fetch Box Tied to Dodo

Hey Ozbargain experts
Clearing out my uncles house and found a Dodo fetch Tv box unopened.
Is this fetch box tied to being used with dodo?
I am guessing the fetch box is 3 or 4 years old.
Box doesn't say mini or mighty , but it records , so it must be a mighty.
I want to sell it , but I'm not sure of its worth.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

If it works the same way as the Optus Fetch box then it will be tied to a Dodo account. You need the activation code from Dodo to start it. It would belong to Dodo and cannot be sold.

  • ok thanks. How would I find out if my uncle bought the fetch box outright or was renting it . he has dementia and I cant really ask

    • If it says Dodo on the box, it will be locked to Dodo, and it'll need a Dodo internet account. From their web site:

This service needs to be bundled with a Dodo broadband (DSL or NBN) connection. If you cancel or transfer either service in the bundle, Dodo may suspend or terminate both services and you may be liable for early termination fees.

      Also:

Fetch Hardware must be returned if your service is cancelled. A non-return fee ($280) applies 30 days after cancellation if hardware is not returned. See website for current charges. Postage & Handling fees: if ordered with modem $29.90, if ordered separately $24.90.

  • Contact Dodo and ask them if your uncle has a current account with them, explain the situation.

  • I think will have to ring them…he's had no dodo bills to his postal address in the last 6 months , which makes me think he bought it outright.
Wonder if they would buy it back , considering it is unopened..probably not though lol

    • Let sleeping dogs lie, if no bills have been received in the last 6 months Dodo have written it off.

  • If it doesn't say it's a mighty then it could be the gen 2 release. If it has a picture of the remote on the box myself or others on here could say what box it is.

ISP boxes are next to worthless and can't be bought from an ISP as they are only ever an rental agreement.
Dodo may have said feel "free to dispose of it as we don't want it back."
Which means take to dump. Or use as paperweight for a bit then take to dump.
    Not sell on FB/eBay/gumtree!
The only result from that is getting someone yelling/spamming fetch's facebook page for not offering to fix it for free because they bought it fair and square off FB/eBay/gumtree.
Seller for selling it is never in the wrong only fetch. lol

  • I really want to mess with an ISP one/use it for spare parts if any one has one in vic

    • There's plenty on Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, and eBay. Some are asking ridiculous prices, but a few are offered at around $20. Strangely, the prices seem better on eBay.

Or maybe you could offer the OP a few bucks - he agrees it's pretty much worthless.

      • I’m watching all the common places and my offers are getting declined. Will get one eventually!

  • It'll make a nice Plex or Kodi center if you don't want to use any of the paid feature. The firmware is here for anyone who wants to mod their machine and build a version that autostarts into Kodi or Plex.

Edit: Also make sure you own the device and that the fetch device is not a rental before selling it.

I saw a bunch of people on the Optus forums complaining about having to $400 back to Optus because they sold a rental device.

  • Ok guys thanks for all the feedback…seems like it’s pretty much worthless
