I did one of these programs, last year and it's quite good. (Price then was $245 from memory). Even after all the driving I've done over the years, I still learnt something new, so, probably not a bad gift for young drivers, or yourself?
Anyhow, thought this was still worth listing.
I agree that a defensive driving course is a must - for beginners and more experienced drivers alike. Its scary watching people doing an emergency stop in 3 times the distance required cause they just don't know what to do in the situation. I personally think this sort of thing should be compulsory for all drivers. For those worried about ruining your car - don't. They wet down the track to protect your tyres, and its all very supervised.
As for the price….I've also done this particular course roughly 7 years ago - and back then it was $100 for Christmas special, and about $220 for the standard price. Its a little disappointing the price has gone up so much, but it is still a reasonable discount. My particular course seemed to have a lot more participants than their full priced course, which meant less practical (on track) time. This may have changed. However it was a good (and cheaper) way to get to their more exciting Level 2 course.
