Apple Watch Shipped from NZ to AUS

I want to purchase a S6 Apple Watch and over the ditch - our friends in NZ has all features enabled including blood monitoring + ECG.

I bought the S4 waiting for ECG to be approved and nothing yet here in AUS.

I have found a website in NZ that ships to AUS with products from NZ.

Does this mean the ECG + blood monitoring feature will be enabled automatically if I activate the watch in Australia?

Cheers

Terry

  • As long as it is a genuine NZ product then I would say yes.

I have a UK Apple Watch S5 and the ECG still works here (even when changing location etc)

No, it has to be activated in NZ. During activation, iPhone checks your current location based on cell towers so it is not something that can be tricked.

      • It can be tricked. Heaps of people on Whirlpool (including myself) have done it.

Yes, I have done that too.

But the question was very clear: "Does this mean the ECG + blood monitoring feature will be enabled automatically if I activate the watch in Australia?".

          And the answer is no.

          • @verio: My bad. Must have skipped past that.

  • Blood oxygen is already enabled in Australia if that’s what you mean by “blood monitoring”?

Why has it been disabled in Aus?
I did not know this was a thing.
Seems silly that we can just do what you're proposing and we have the feature.
Why not just give it to us in the first place.

Interested to know if this does work.

    • It's been a thing since last year with Series 5, because it would be classified as a 'medical device' which needs to be approved by the TGA. We're not the only ones, but probably the latest. NZ only enabled the feature in March, South Korea fairly recently.

Yeah okay, thanks. I didnt realise this.
Seems Aus misses out sometimes in the tech world (latest SnapDragon too).

Not sure why the negs? I was confused why it can work in Aus but isnt sold in Aus.
        Wasn't ragging on OP.

  • I thought the product needed to be activated in New Zealand during setup so that it connects to the correct timezone. That is the way the features get enabled for your watches market. Shipping it to Australia would be redundant as it'd have Aus timezone and functions.
Trevor Long from EFTM setup his apple watch S4 in new york and got all the ECG functions, while his partner in tech Stephen Fenech from Tech Guide setup in Australia and missed out on this feature. They mentioned it on their podcast a few weeks ago. If you know someone in New Zealand that can activate it for you on your account I think that's the only way it'll work.

    • Yeah it needs to be activated in NZ to enable ECG.

OP, you don't need another countries Apple Watch model to be able to make use of ECG.

Check out this Whirlpool thread - (in particular this post) - to learn about how to enable it on an AU purchased watched and iPhone.

Personally, I use this method - you do have to pay for the software to do this. There are free alternatives out there though.

Also, I strongly advise against purchasing grey imports/overseas stock.. You will forfeit your ACL rights if you do so.

I can confirm I used the method from that whirlpool thread (cost about $56) and it worked and is still working fine. I bought both my iphone and apple watch 6 in Australia from the official apple store online.

Cheers for that! Picked one up today and followed that method, first time it didn’t work but gave it another go and it’s all working fine! Thanks heaps :)
