MMS? via Android

Hi all,

I just use the standard SMS app on ky LG. I'm trying to send a GIF 4.7mb. It says file size too large. How do i send it as an MMS? Apparently the size ia ok via that.
Or i could be wrong.

Thanks.

The maximum message size (along with the attachments) is generally limited to 300KB (MMS 1.2), but recently the MMS 1.3 standard has allowed for a maximum size of 600KB. Wireless carriers however can impose their own size restrictions.

Ask your provider what their size restrictions are for MMS.

  • I didn't realise that people still use MMS! There's no chance MMS will take 5MB.
If you have Whatsapp or Line or something like that that runs off data, it'll easily take it.

many people will call any images sent using the sms app on their phone as mms but reality is these apps send the big ones via data theses days. sounds like OP's doesn't do that though

      • Is that only with iphones? I don't think my android phone does it. I rarely ever send SMS' and rarely receive them, except from the odd work colleague here and there that doesn't know how to use any of the newer apps.

except from the odd work colleague

Leave the poor guy alone - he's not "odd", he's really just like everyone else inside.

          • @pjetson: haha I didn't mean "odd" as in "weird". I meant it as unexpected or different to usual. Hope OP didn't get offended! :)

        • Now Android has the same feature with Google RCS, need to enable chat feature in settings in google messaging (sms) app.

        • Why would I want to use a proprietary data harvesting app to send my text messages when there's a free alternative which works on and is included on all platforms?

          • @macrocephalic: There are many more functions on those third party apps than the basic one included in the phone. Perfect example from the OP in terms of additional functionality that these offer . And most of them are end-to-end encrypted. SMS is not secure and easy to read by the network (and law enforcement!).

One of the major ones is the ability to have a Group Chat on the non-standard apps.

        • I primarily communicate via SMS. I use signal WhatsApp, telegram, discord, messenger for group stuff but by far the easiest option for me is simply using Google messages app.

            @SgtBatten:

I use signal WhatsApp, telegram, discord…

And may I ask what you use Signal and Telegram for? 🤣🤣
            (don't answer that! haha)

  • There's no way it'll look even half decent by the time it's shrunk down (which it will need to be)

Why can't you send via any standard messaging app using data?

  • Use email, perhaps?

Download and use Textra as your default messaging app.

    Thank me later.

  • In school, I printed off a GIF hoping it would still be animated on the printout. Memories

OP - yeah nah, just in case your telco charges you for sending mms. Like the dodo $5 plan

  • Yeah email, WhatsApp, snap etc welcome to the 21st century
