New Routes: Qantas Launches Canberra to Sunshine Coast $169, Cairns $199 and Hobart $159 @ Qantas.com

Qantas has today announced a major expansion of its network from the nation’s capital with three new routes commencing in the next month from Canberra.

Details of the three new routes are:

Canberra-Sunshine Coast will operate three times a week and start on Thursday 19 November
Canberra-Cairns will operate twice a week and starts on Saturday 21 November
Canberra-Hobart will operate three times a week and starts on Friday 4 December

Qantas is launching a three-day sale with special fares*:

Canberra-Cairns from $199 one-way
Canberra-Sunshine Coast from $169 one-way
Canberra-Hobart from $159 one-way

    Interesting these routes didn't exist before Covid. I guess they're banking on more domestic tourism given these are mostly leisure destinations.

      My guess is it's because smaller carriers have only recently started flying there. I'm cynically just thinking it's the leprechaun acting as usual out to crush them. Especially considering how much under-utilised QF resources are around at the moment.

        Probably the most opportune time for smaller carriers to expand their business. As the market for flights expands back up, any smaller carriers which can gain a slice of the expansion could potentially become long-term serious competitors for Qantas. I saw Rex just acquired a 737 and will start flying the golden triangle.
