    Flight to Singapore, $736
One night in an average 3-4 stars hotel in Singapore, $700
    Priceless.

      Man,

I miss the days when the exchange rate was the opposite.

      $1 aud to $1.2 singapore.

Our love affair with debt/houses and brown nosing the miners to suppress our Exhange rate really has done a number on anyone that wants to travel. Our rates should be higher/stronger, but no.

not really.. unless u want it downtown or near cbd

Mercure Tyrwhitt (4 star) is like $150-200 a night

Why is it cheaper to go to another country with a stopover in SG with SG airlines, than go direct to SG with SG airlines?

    purely seat filling?

    • Which are these countries?

      • Taiwan was cheaper last week via SIN with SQ.

    • +1

Price discrimination, flights aren’t always priced in proportional to distance flown. Heaps of business travel to SIN alone so they can jack up flights and accomodation.

Like Cathay is currently throwing in free business class on the HKG-TPE leg when you book premium economy, but it’s a bog standard flight and it can be more expensive if you’re only heading to HKG direct.

coming back from japan with transit in sg, feels like everything was super expensive, and cause Japan felt so cheap. A bowl of noodle was like $14 after conversion, and this is like hawker food with small portions, i usually need to eat 2 servings. Pre covid it was like $6 for a bowl. Can't imagine going to a cafe and then paying another 20% gst on top.

    • Agree - SG feels like a rip-off, especially after Japan and local prices for the food at the Japanese airports
