110

UPDATE 3: Extended again, Almighty stock still available.

UPDATE 2: Opening it up to Victoria-wide and National Shipping. Just keep in mind, the unrefrigerated travel time may decrease the overall shelf life. So it's recommended you enjoy the beers within a few weeks and keep refrigerated.

RUNOUT SPECIAL!

Almighty Imperial IPA Case of 16 - ONLY $69, SAVING $75
Passionfruit Sour Case of 24 - ONLY $49, SAVING $31

Hey OzBargainers, you've been awesome to us in the past, so I thought I'd share these sales with you first.

We're doing a runout sale on our Almighty Imperial IPA. Unfortunately due to the style of beer and huge amounts of hops used, it doesn't have as long a shelf life as most beers. Especially as the weather warms. As such we're hoping to move the last of our stock, while it's still good quality.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND: For best quality, please drink within 4 weeks and keep refrigerated.

If you get 2 cases or something else to be over $100 total order value, you'll receive free delivery to our Melb-Metro area. We also have free delivery within 5km and pick up available.

I've set it to end this weekend but may extend if stocks last.

*While stocks last. Not applicable with other offers. No refunds due to the heavy discount and short used by date.

Free Delivery:
Local: 3165, 3188, 3189, 3190, 3191, 3192, 3193, 3194, 3195, 3204
Metro-Melbourne (if total order over $100): 3000-3138, 3140-3207, 3800-3807, 3975-3976

As usual I'll be checking the posts sporadically if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Liam from Bad Shepherd Brewing Co

  • I thought IPAs have a longer shelf life due to the high level of hops… isn't that what they originally used hops? As a preservative?

    • Hey mate, not as far as I'm aware. The method in which this type of beer is hopped means it doesn't last as long as your simpler styles, like Pales and Lagers etc.

      Cheers,

      Liam

Maybe some more research is needed

        • I'll double check with our brewer and get back to you with specifics. Unfortunately I'm not versed in the ways of brewing as much as they are! :D

        • +2

Probably not by the brewery though ;)

When it was purely a bittering hop this was part of its purpose.

Long gone are the days when highly hopped beers are all bittering early hops.
The late stage and post boil hop additions are all more volatile and a loss in aroma and flavour over time due to dissolved oxygen and have a shorter shelf life if you want to ensure the aroma and flavour has not deminished

      • Legend, look at this guy with his big beer brain!

        Cheers, Liam

    • In terms of safety, and bitterness, this much is true (for surviving the old sea journey to India)

But modern style IPAs tend to be driven by the more volatile hop flavours and aromas which will fade a lot quicker. The bitterness will remain, and they'll still be drinkable, but you'll lose those flavours that are there when the beer is fresh.

  • Hi OP, Please advise best before date.

    • Hey mate, we're advising it's best to drink within the next 4 weeks. Cheers, Liam

Thanks mate, so I am assuming BBD is 30 November.

        • Hey mate, I just checked some (many) cans (empties) I have here at home. :D The printed BB is 06/21. Which looks like our general BB time period. We're not expect this style of beer to be at it's best for that long, especially over summer. Hence the recommendation to drink them within the next 4 weeks or so. Cheers, Liam

These were brewed in September, so not too bad at all!

$144 for 16 tinnies normally? That's nearly 10 bucks a can, holy smokes, and I felt ripped off paying a tenner for a pint in a pub.

    • +1

I was about to say exactly the same thing. Who actually pays that much for beers?!

      • Not me, buddy.

I'd sooner buy a home brew kit and do it myself than pay that much.

    • Exactly how many 8.5% ABV iipa you buying in pints?

      • +1

60 bucks normal price for 24 of these, albeit 8.2%, but nonetheless for normal price, it puts these to shame. 144 is insane. https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_51528/mercury-hard-…

By all means if people wanna pay it, let them, power to these guys honestly. But you gotta be a CEO or something to justify spending 10 bucks on a drink at home.

        • +1

          not exactly a straight comparison
Cider has a lower tax rate than beer
Ingredients, brewing and fermenting time would be longer for the beer than that cider

I definitely wouldnt be downing $10 beers at home often, but have on the odd special occasion, and I'm not a 'CEO or something'
This is a 8.5% 440ml… its essentially 3 standard drinks per can.

I'd more happily try something like this for $10 at home, than what I would get for $10 at a pub :)

          • @SBOB: I see it's a tallboy can as you say, that's at least something in it's favor, but even still, some company I've never heard of, I'm not gonna pay such a high premium to try them out.

If nothing else, this thread pushed me over the line into buying one of them DIY beer kits from Big Dub, let's see how we go.

              its a slippery slope :)
              good luck.
I think I did maybe one or two diy 'can' kits, tried an extract kit and then jumped into all grain brewing..
If you ignore capital expenditure on equipment, your time, and possible future liver costs, its a cheap hobby :)

If you're an IPA fan, once you start seeing the cost of hops for a recipe like what this IIPA would have, you'll soon see where some of the cost goes :)

              • @SBOB: Not really much of a drinker anyways tbh, it'd just be a fun little thing to do over the summer I guess.

tbh I haven't had a single "hipster beer" as we call them, that I've enjoyed, they're all too fruity I find. Gimme a nice basic Carlton or Vic style brew, and I'm aces.

@TheDukeOfNukem: So you came into this thread to tell us you don't like this type of product and think its expensive… why?

                  • @YOTR: Same reason anyone comes to any forum, to discuss the topic…?

    Cheers, grabbed a sour

  • Damn! Was keen to give you guys a try as I've heard good things - but alas i'm in QLD!

    • Hey mate, if we do any more national deals I'll be sure to post them. Cheers, Liam

  • Hey all, I'm opening it up to Victoria-wide and National Shipping. Just keep in mind, the unrefrigerated travel time may decrease the overall shelf life. So it's recommended you enjoy the beers within a couple weeks and keep refrigerated. Cheers, Liam
