After owning a Nitecore Tube and Nitecore TIP 2017,
I have had this Nitecore TIP SE for a few months now, and it's a pretty good torch.

The only issue I have (coming from the TIP 2017), is the way the buttons are 'programmed'.
I don't like it, but I like having 700-lumens in my pocket.

    • I have one already and I think the UI is great, what don't you like about it?

      • +1

        i don't like the 2 x modes, e.g. DEMO, etc.

i cannot lock the torch buttons, like the older TIP models.

however, the new UI means i can have a short-cut to the brightest mode.

        • The mode is set and forget. Agree with the lockout, however I always leave in lowest mode in case of accidental activation (hasn't happened since I had the light) and this one isn't "hold for turbo" UI which the last one had, which is great

        • @whyisave
I'm getting USD $30 for Graysons model. Is the promo over?

          • +1

@Kangal: Update: Back in stock / flash sale. Managed to get one for AUD $24.

            • @Kangal: how come so cheap ?
              surely, that's USD 24…

i'm seeing US$ 19.95 for the torches now (and then there's GST and shipping).

        • +1

Locking out is super important as a daily carry. I’ve burnt holes in a few of my pants with accidental activations from these series.

Other than that they are an awesome little torch.

Haven’t had any issues with the TIP 2 which I highly recommend.

          • @uetecu: I totally agree with the 'locking' ability,
and I really miss this feature in the newer TIP and the TIP SE,
but I see why they've put in these modes,
because they limit the light staying on more than 30-seconds.

I don't like it, and the buyer should have the choice to lock,
but I don't know what the 'programming complexity' is, not to do this.

    • I own the 2017 version also. I have wanted to buy another (great for the moonlight mode for navigation around the house at night). Is this thing much better in general?

      • better

Better is relative. It's different. Different led emitters (also one more), brighter, more powerful - but that also means it can discharge faster.

I have both. I keep the old model on my keys now as a beater but it still goes strong. The new model is low key a beast of a light. For $32~ it's a bargain imo (paid about 36~).

        • Same. I paid AU$ 36+ , a few months ago.

This or the old Blitzwolf torch
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/405207

    • That's far from a key ring torch

    • Blitzwolf torch is still bulkier and not pocketable like a "key ring"

  • +2

Have the Tube 45 purchased in 2018, still going strong. love it.

    edit: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/362049

    • For reference this torch is 15x more powerful.

      • +2

700 lumens is enough to temporarily blind someone, doubles as self-defense tool lol

        • Yep, would need to be right up close though I'd reckon. Check out the Klarus XT12GT with tactical switch for a long range effective blinding torch. It's awesome!

  • Where is it made in?

    • I'm pretty certain it's made in China. Someone with one can confirm?

      • -2

Hmm .. no thanks. Now there’s a clear reason to boycott chinese goods.

Before negging read the news or start here if you live under a rock: https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp.abc.net.au/article/12857…

        • +2

Lol. Random fact I pulled out of my ass but something like 90% of all torches are made in China. Some specialised ones are made in USA and Europe too.

Good luck getting one that's not made in China.

          • +3

@Skinnerr: Well pretty much everything is made in china I agree but I'd like to do my bit when and where I can.

            • @expatOz: That's short-sighted, literally. What are you going to do when you need light in the dark outside?

I'm no CCP fan but pick your battles mate.

              • +2

@Skinnerr: This is something I can do without cause I most likely won't be in the dark outside and absolutely need this torch, pretty sure there would be alternatives.

So when I can avoid a chinese purchase, I will.

                • +1

@expatOz: If we all make a conscious effort to support non Chinese products, more stuff will be made elsewhere. Yeah, it's gonna cost more which goes against the ozbargain philosophy but it's worth it to be less dependent on those bastards in the long term.

  • Had an older model tip for at least five years. Super solid and reliable. Hightly recommend.

  • -3

I wouldn’t buy coz it’s built in battery

    • +1

It's a proprietary battery made for this light. It's definitely a pro.

      • Can you replace the battery?

        • It's possible, yes.

        • Never need to. Lasts for years.

When it does die you’ll want the new model 😉

  • Thanks, OP. Nabbed one :)

  • Great review here https://youtu.be/9Qs-y7J8a1w

  • Thinking wether to get this or a Rovyvon A5x

    • Rovyvon are a cut above imo. Great lights.

  • +1

How is Gearbest's delivery times nowdays? It's been awhile.

    • If Aliex is anything to go by they are getting back closer to normal, however AusPost isnt, so a month or so to get to Australia and a month to get move within AU.

  • Is this deal for the whole torch or just the tip?

    • The name of the torch is actually called tip.

  • Ozbargained? :(

    • Looks like no more sale on it

      • +2

Actually looks like both colours on sale through the app. Just got 2 in grey

  • Just got scammed with this, made the payment just as the deal ended and got charged about 50AUD, just working it out with support now, they can't refund the difference but will just cancel the order and refund the entire payment. A shame, wanted the flashlight :(

    • +2

I just got it from the app both colours in sale and even cheaper. Try the app?

      • +1

Was just about to make an edit saying I saw your comment and I just picked one up through the app, thanks! And for anyone interested the order cancellation went fine, the support was quite nice.

Though the app was $1 USD more expensive I think haha

      • Awesome thank you, managed to get one through the app. Been hanging for this torch since release, and almost curled up in the fetal position and started rocking when i saw the deal had ended. :)

  • Looks like the Flash sale has ended.

    • +3

You can still get it from the app. Same price for both black and grey versions.

      • This! Thanks!

Deal should be marked App Only

  • "Which nitecore do you have?"

    "Just the Tip"

  • Any torch recommendations @ a similar price which are "good enough"? Been looking to buy a torch for some time :)

    • +2

Check out rovyvon. I've been very happy with their keychain lights.

      • Thanks! The Rovyvon A5 is on sale in the Gearbest app as well (20 USD with shipping and GST). There is a new version but for the price, I took one.

    • Absolutely agree with the other comment. Rovyvon is amazing, I have the a25 (glow shell with the uv) and I use it all the time, having the ability to charge the glow shell with the uv light for a few minutes and it lasting all night and have 1000 lumens at the touch of a button is amazing.

      • +1

Thanks guys, will check Rovyvon out :)

  • Just got notification that Gearbest sent one out lol so late

  • Mine still hasn't been sent yet.
