Any Good Car Deals at The Moment ???

Hi All,

I posted few months ago seeking your suggestions about any good deals which may be available in Luxury car segment BUT ended up buying a Toyota Prado VX. It was a safe bet considering the reliability and resale value of Prado range.

Once again in the market to purchase another vehicle due to the sale of my 6 Year old Hyundai Santa Fe. This time if the price is right, I would like to purchase something from the likes of Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Lexus.

I am after an SUV type of vehicle. In Audi Q5, Q7. In BMW X3, X4 or X5 will do for me. Similar vehicles in Mercedes and Lexus.

I am open to suggestions about other companies as well like Volvo, VW or anything else you think has some wonderful deals going.

Has anyone recently purchased a similar vehicle ? Please give your views and educate me. Its a business purchase.

On another note, due to corona virus, the production and supply chains around the world are severly disrupted. So, how much is the affect of this factor on the availablity of stock and good deals in Australia, I am not really sure of.

So, Help me out folks and educate me pls.

Since thanks for your contibutions.

Josh

Are you buying a car, or a deal…?

Generally people work out which car suits their needs and budget, then go and negotiate to further bring down the price.

    • Yes.. OP should narrow it down, work out a rough budget, do test drives of cars that suit their requirements and budget, and then select a winner based on the actual car..

Once they know the car, then work on price with various dealers (and/or private if not new) and put the best offer of what OP wants to pay on the table, being prepared to walk.

Most "good deals" people get are typically those done by negotiation or against demo cars etc., not always advertised by the manufacturer as typically those prices have plenty of wiggle room.

    • I have driven around the X3, X5, Audi Q5, Q7 etc….I and my partner are Okay with any of them.

I am not a "Cars person", If it was upto me, I will just stick with the Japanese and Koreans BUT you got to listen to family/kids and that's what I am doing.

I have driven plenty of these cars and they all seem Okay to me. Most of the mentioned brands and models are good, successful, reliable and more than satisfy my desires.

So, after all the above, I would say that YES, here on Ozbargain, I am mainly looking for a good deal in any of the cars in luxury SUV segment. I am after a good deal because these cars depreciate a lot and if I buy properly and manage to snare a good deal in any of the above, less "car loss" when its time to sell.

I am often impressed by the insights, analysis and advise people so selflessly give here AND that's always an added bonus you get whenever you post.

      Thanks once again.

Well would it not be obvious then that X3 is cheaper than X5, Q5 is cheaper than Q7, etc? So guess what, I found a bargain in a X3/Q5, it's thousands cheaper than an X5/Q7! How good is that?!!

So again, work out the car, then find the bargain.

If it was upto me, I will just stick with the Japanese and Koreans BUT you got to listen to family/kids and that's what I am doing.

You absolutely don't have to listen to family/kids. Check out The Millionaire Nextdoor. You want your kids growing up thinking that's normal? To waste their money on new luxury vehicles? You want to get lifestyle creep going in your life?

Get a Korean / Japanese car and save some money. Tell your kids and family to suck it up.

If you don't mind spending loads on runnings costs and repairs go for Aldi, BMW or Merc.
Otherwise buy a Lexus. Toyota dependability with luxury trim.

…and unless you have money to burn or you just really, really, really HAVE to have a NEW car… buy one that's 12-24mth old with a couple of years warranty.

  • There’s no ‘good’ deals.

Since you can’t make up your mind, go and ask your friends/family which one is best. There’s no point asking randoms on the internet that dont know you.

I know of a good Renault that the owner never seems to keep locked or is pretty easy to get into. May or may not have been involved in being a “soup kitchen”…

  • Its a business purchase.

Talk to your accountant first. You'll have non-deductible depreciation is most (all?) cars that you want…
