not crappy under powered ? I had a $100 Braun that didnt last longer than 2 or 3 years. transistor or fet blew up within the charging circuit.

What's the difference between this and the silver 5000 'washable' version selling for $79/$89?

    • +1

The 79 charges in an hour while this one charges in 8hrs. Possibly the silver on has li-ion batteries.

  • Yeah, confused about their range too! How does this one compare to….this one……

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B071RZXXZ9

    ….aside from not being washable?

    • Being washable is a major advantage. Hair gets stuck all over and needing to clean ineffectively with a brush is a PITA.

I have both, this one is specifically for hair on your head:
      - the blade is wider and doesn't clog as quickly, useful if you have thicker hair
      - you can change lengths easier by sliding the wheel on the instead of changing the comb for each length
      - slightly easier to grip because the whole unit is a bit wider and bigger ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The Multigroom linked to by PotPlan is better suited for face and body, I still use it for that, mainly for getting beard length down quickly to a 3-day shave look in about a minute. I rate them both.

      • thanks.

    • Turbo Mode; Pressing The Turbo Mode Button Will Increase The Speed Of The Motor To Efficiently Cut Even Thicker Hair

there's also Turbo mode on the silver one

Seems like the major difference is in the battery and charger?
This blue version: '75 Minutes Of Cordless Power After 8 Hours Of Charging'
vs the more expensive silver version: '90 minutes of cordless power after 1 hour of charging'

    • 8 hours of charging…..

      • +1

Still has an old school Ni-MH battery, the silver one has Li-ion.

I cancelled my order, cant wait 8 hours.

      • Use it corded one time and let it plugged a while for next use. But yeah its long

        • Yeah use it corded one time if you really have to. 75 min of battery time would last me like 3 months. I have have an aldi cordless and a charge it probably 4 times a year.

        • ok you and @mckayver convinced me to buy it. Cheers.

  • The link posted by someone else is more of a body groomer, and hair trimmer.

    These listed are hair clippers.

I have been using a similar Philips clipper every 2-3 weeks over the last 5 years after my last Remington died. One of the plastic clips and the included scissors partially broke, but it's still usable. The battery lasts for 3-4 cuts with thick hair a d needs to charge overnight. Overall recommended and saves you lots of money on haircuts!

    Good for trimming pubes?

    • +6

      Asking for a friend….?

      • +13

Good for trimming my friend's pubes?

    • can anyone actually confirm this question?

  • +4

If you have thick hair, just get a wall plugged Wahl clipper. Maintain it well (always oil it, keep it clean etc) and you'll be set for life.

    • What'd you mean oil it?? Isn't it bad for the clippers?

      • +3

Trimmers & clippers generally require maintenance including oil preferably after use just a drop or so.

Wahl trimmers come with some oil u can apply to them after use.

Philips on the other hand apparently don't need it with their "self sharpening" technology
