Damn this is rated at +45 to -35 seconds a DAY.

I know this is a cheap automatic but you will need to recalibrate your watch at minimum once a week.

Anyone considering this to keep time should definitely consider getting a quartz. It'd like 90% the same while being like a second off every week.

So I should sell my collection and sport my Casio F91W every day?

I've had tonnes of Seikos and currently have about 5. They're all running between +0 to +4 seconds per day. They have a large stated variation so people like you don't send it to the service centre when it's +-10 seconds out.

You think people buy a Speedy or Sub for its accuracy?

You're taking logical extremes. There are tons of quartz watches that don't look like a calculator. Look at most of the Tag lineup or even the other half of the Seiko lineup.

Comparing this budget automatic to the likes of Omega and Rolex is absurd and completely irrelevant. You're definitely buying a Speedy or Sub for the brand and luxury prestige with time keeping as secondary. Expecting a $500 Seiko to provide that is the same as showing off a cheap handbag. At this price point you might as well get something that looks good AND practical.

Regardless, my Planet Ocean is rated to +5 to -0 even though it's still an automatic. These are watches you wear for lifetimes and having to tune them every few days adds up to being a huge chore. There's a reason why tons of people are turned off by manual wind.

        • Good lord there's a lot of nonsense here.

  • I am buying this one, seems like pretty good price. Could anyone please advise if you reckon I should wait until Christmas for a better deal?
    Much appreciated

    • The king samurai has been on sale for a few times this year.

Not sure if they do Black Friday sales, but hoping to see some good deals.
