Has Anyone Received The Wrong Item from Amazon AU?

I ordered the WD blue M2 2TB, and what I received instead is WD Blue 2.5" 250G drive.

What the hell happened to my order? Did they run out of stock and just randomly send me something?

Now, I have to send the item back to get a refund. The item was on discount when I purchase and it is not available at the previous price. So even they give me my money back (2-15 days) later, I still do not have a drive… I am not happy…

Has this ever happen to any of you?

  • I received 3 BOX SETS on Thursday.
    Dukes of Hazard
    The Hulk
    Happy Days
and a random movie from Amazon France.

  • Yes, I got a wrong item from Amazon US. When I took a look, it was because it was a third-party seller but fulfilled by Amazon, and they put the wrong item sticker on it. I got a refund but the item went out of stock so I never got what I had wanted.

    • Most likely this is the reason for the mistake. If item sold by third party usually either the box barcode or a barcode sticker. If it's Amazon itself who sell this, there is no barcode sticker.

Many times from Amazon Australia. And when I've complained they sent me the same incorrect item again, and again, and again (not kidding, same incorrect item 4x total).

After the 2nd incorrect item when I rang to complain I said "maybe you've got the item in the wrong slot at the warehouse, so the picker just grabs what is in that slot without realising, you should check". They didn't really understand my comment (was someone who didn't have English as a first language) and just said "We'll send the item again, sorry for the mistake, you wont be charged again and no need to send the incorrect item back as it was our mistake".

After the 4th time I rang them and said "Just stop, this is getting ridiculous now". So they gave me a refund and still said I don't need to return the item because it was their mistake. So I got about $100 worth of stuff for free, but could not get the item I wanted. I was wondering how many hundreds of other customers were doing the same for the same item!

From Amazon US I ordered a $300 Manfrotto tripod. They sent me the wrong one. When I rang to complain they sent me the correct one but told me to just keep the one I already has as it was their mistake.

I've had other mistakes too. Can't complain about their service, especially when they just let you keep the mistake.

After seeing this story about Amazon CA probably better that they don't get you to send them back if it's anything like that here.

I ordered ink cartridges. They sent the wrong ones but were genuine versions for a completely different model printer.

They resent the correct ones and told me to keep the original order.

I flogged the first delivery on eBay and made ~$20 profit on the whole deal.

  • I am glad I am not the only one… I have not order many things from amazon about 8 times and this is the most expensive I have order and such a major disappointment. I probably did over 100+ order on ebay and I never have an issue even when the item has to come from overseas.

  • Yeah, they once sent a completely different type of shoe. Only happened once, and was an amazon US order.

PS: forgot to Add. I didn't even order anything from Amazon. πŸ˜³πŸ˜›πŸ˜„πŸ‘

When you receive stuff from Amazon that you didn't order, first check your order history and change your password on your Amazon account (if you have one).

Receiving Amazon stuff you didn't order, usually either your account got hacked and they are ordering stuff to create verified positive reviews, or testing stolen credit cards (not necessarily on your account).

Nope, I use amazon regularly but haven’t had any wrong orders so far. Must be lucky!

  • I have had a couple of random things come to me that I never ordered. Amazon never cares usually and just tells me to keep it - usually budget stuff anyway.

Ordered a saucepan in size 28cm, while on a really low sale. Sent size 24cm.

Went on live chat and they organised a replacement while telling me to keep the original. Even though the price had gone up by this point.

Next one arrived same size 24cm.
Live chat again this one look a lot longer and they found that the stock in the warehouse was wrong as it was all size 24cm.
Told to keep the second one and they refunded as no 28cm was available.

Each sold for $60 on Facebook.

I ordered some motorcycle parts off Amazon UK (before AU was a store) and instead I received a Telescope. And not just any telescope, this was some top of the line Celestron, $1,000+ fully electronic, tracking, motorised reflector type.

Spoke to Amazon UK about it and they said they could refund me if I sent the telescope back to them. The parts I ordered were only about $200ish dollars. To freight this package back to the UK was going to be well in excess of that due to it's weight and size… So, I just reordered the motorcycle parts. Parts arrived and I never heard any more about the telescope :D

    • I'll give you $250 for the telescope

          • @Muzeeb: There needs to be a thread added to the forum where people can sell or swap the items they've received from Amazon in error.

I'll sell you mine. But don't be upset if a 24cm pan arrives.

Has Anyone Received The Wrong Item from Amazon.au <insert online retailer here>?

    Fixed. Mistakes happen.

      There are other online retailers?

  • I received the wrong size flat head screwdriver once but that has been the only incorrect item I can recall out of the thousands I've had from them. I have had several damaged items and in the last few months I've had more missing deliveries than the past 10 years combined.

  • I bought a WD HDD last week. Product listing/title said it was 2TB model, but in the options I could select 2TB or 5TB versions.

Bought the 5TB, package arrived, got 2TB. Called cust service, they said sorry we'll send you the right one on expedited delivery, the next day got package, another 2TB. Was on the phone for a whole hour the next morning, the rep checked the listing, tried to get me replacement (but it wouldn't have worked out as they would have just sent the exact same 2TB again), asked me to reorder to check, then we cancelled that cos he talked to some head team and eventually we went to a slightly different product link, ordered the 5TB, and he manually subtracted the price difference on his end for my order. Got an advance refund according to what he said.

I have a slip to return the first 2TB hard drive, don't know about the 2nd hard drive I got yet, but haha they aren't letting me keep the incorrect items.

My friend also bought the same item, he emailed, but they told him sorry the listing is wrong, gave a refund and a $10 credit instead.

All in all Amazon have been happy to help, their reps all have meh english but are patient and polite. Relatively easy and pain free to get refunds and do returns compared to most other companies. But being a large company they end up with more mistakes and screw ups I guess, but more often they'll just say sorry it's our fault, take this $10 as compensation, we'll do all in our power to try make it right before we run out of options, etc.

  • This is what happens when companies use dumb bots to do the picking. Things will get better when they start using AI.

  • Had item received incorrectly and on the call with them realised I had stuffed up. They refunded straight away on the call, gave me a return label and I ordered the new one which came next day.

Although I don't like seeing one retailer become too big, you have to hand it to Amazon, they get it so right and deserve my business.

  • Shouldn't you be telling them

  • Corsair Keyboard that was listed as UK layout (big enter key) arrived but was usual USA layout. Took half an hour of explaining to rep the difference between them and they told me they don't actually have the one I wanted at all. Decided to keep it as it was under $200 and the version I wanted is only available for over $300 everywhere. Plus Covid was in full swing, so wasn't sure if the world was going to end lol

  • I've had it when 3rd party seller fulfilled by Amazon, the return process was painless but yeah they don't just ship you the correct item at the original price it is refund and try again, which sucks when it was a good deal but can work out if something slightly different went on sale instead

  • Never - and I have >500 orders between Amazon US and AU.

  • Just message support, bought a kit of RAM on Prime Day for $70 and it was faulty, return the items and buy another kit for $130, then Amazon refund the $60 difference to my bank account
