I'm not doubting you got a great deal. I'm just jealous. :)
        Might be store specific

        • More for proof of purchase for price if anyone goes into NSW stores and they are scanning at full price. Show them the receipt and hopefully they honour it for $12.

      • Just came from that Riverwood store, no stock :(

    Is it MFI certified?

    • +2

yes, you can see the MFI certification on the packet

It has that "Made for iPhone, iPad, iPod" logo at the bottom and Energizier is a proper brand, so I am 99% sure it is MFi.

      • there is a lot of recognisable brands that license their name to other manufacturers to use for their product.

Michelin and Goodyear (big recognisable 'rubber' companies) both license their name to a windshield wiper company to make mediocre wiper blades that get sold in Costco.

im not saying these cables are bad, but just because something has a brand on it doesnt mean you should consider it to be the same quality as the brand might be known for, especially if it falls outside their standard product offering.

        • Surely Energiser wouldn’t sell cables for iPhones, without getting Apple’s permission first?

Sounds like a lawsuit just waiting to happen.

          • @Blue Cat: I think you've misunderstood.

its not about energizer licensing Apples name. Its about an unknown chinese brand with a product to sell.

Energizer dont make cables. neither does Apple. They both pay someone to make them.

it can be 1 of 2 ways:

Energizer want to get in to the mid-range cable market. they find a manufacturer in china that meets their quality and production standards. they let them make cables, and usually the ones that pass QA the best are sold as energizer. the rest are remanufactured or sold unbranded/rebranded at a lower cost.

            OR

someone in China makes the cables (MFI certified cables) and licenses the energizer name (brand recognition) to put on them to sell at a higher margin. energizer gets money just for letting a brand use their name to sell a product.

your average shopper might not buy a CHEO-NONG brand iphone cable. an ENERGIZER one might cost more but the brand is a household name, been around for decades etc so there is more confidence in the product.

if you were to look on aliexpress or any of the e-commerce sites in china you'd likely find the exact same cable with many different brands on it (all drastically cheaper than the energizer branded ones)

    • Thanks, unfortunately no stock near me.
