    Deal breaker for me.

    • Refer yourself and sign up a new account

  • Interesting that you can claim a chromecast ultra when the tv already comes with android tv. Anyways, nice little bonus.

    • Probably because it runs android 7 which was released way back in 2016 and is now unsupported, nice work TEAC

      • I think 9.0 is the latest around.. I wonder if this can be updated

      • Oh true that. It'd still have a Chromecast built in though right?

My 65" EKO comes with Android 9 out of the box.

        • I am worry my particular app doesnt support Android 7.0.. I got an EKO running App Store version 22.
Don't think we can patch from 7 to 9 too…………

  • I was looking at the 75" but saw these:
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/teac-le65a518uhd
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/teac-le43a518uhd-4…

Does anyone own one? I'm ready to pull the trigger.

  • It said Android TV but I had a look at their instruction manual and their interface doesn't look like the one lets say similar to Vodafone TV. https://www.teac.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IM-LE82A5…
However their product page said "Google Play" available.. not sure if is built in or not.

    • I think the instruction manual is generic in nature not showing any android info.

  • Be careful if you’re watching sport or playing games.

  • This is interesting though:
    TEAC PRODUCT
excluding commercial use products SIZE (TV) WARRANTY PERIOD
from date of purchase WARRANTY SERVICE TYPE
LED/LCD TV 32” to 60” 36 mths Authorised Service Centre Service
LED/LCD TV 61” and above 0 -12 mths In home service
    LED/LCD TV 61” and above 13 - 36 mths(Panel Only) Authorised Service Centre Service

12 months warranty with 3 years on panel only.

    • ACL will most likely get you much more than that. Provided that catch stays in business

      • Does wesfarmers own it now?

        • Good point, should be fine then

      • Its unknown how much more you will get being its a cheap brand at a really cheap price

        • Doesn't really affect the expectation of a TV being lasted for say 3 years I think

  • Can anyone see how long this is valid for? I don't want to jump in before black friday offerings.

  • HDR ?

    • It would seem not to have HDR

      • +1

It's weird they don't specify it on the product page, but the manual is specifically for "LE82A521" - https://www.teac.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IM-LE82A5… - and includes this bit:

        "HDR
Press button to select HDR and press OK button to select On/Off."

I'm not 100% sold here either as it's not on the specs page of the product - but I think that might just be TEAC absolutely dialling it now.

If it does have HDR, it'll not be great, as the TV brightness is perfectly adequate for normal use but doesn't really have what is needed for decent HDR at only 300 nits (aka 300cd/m2). For good HDR apparently you need 600 nits, preferably 1000 per most write-ups like this article https://www.consumerreports.org/tvs/everything-you-need-to-k…

        • Thank you for that.. I'm really tempted. I see you've pulled the trigger. Please if you remember let us all know how it goes.

        • Please let us know what you think. The 300cd/m2 puts me off a bit, otherwise I would assume it might be a cheap but good Samsung panel recased and rebranded..

@ChurchMouth: Appreciate it's too late, but the TV came on Friday. Quick review below for next time this thing's on sale!

            Pros:
            - The panel is absolutely fine. Blacks are black not blue or grey tinted. It's an edge lit LED so don't expect OLED but you won't be distracted or annoyed.
            - It does have HDR; it's surprisingly alright such that I've left it on. It has 'Dynamic Lighting'; that's always trash but you do you.
            - My test was a few eps of season 9 of American Horror Story - they were set at night in the woods around a camp and I had zero complaints with a few 'oh that's pretty' moments. It's an edge lit LED so don't expect OLED magnificence but it's solid.
            - The HDMI CEC control actually works well! Wakes up the AVR and goes straight to sending sound to speakers such that I've actually shelved the AVR remote.
            - The ARC works well.

            Cons:
            - Omg it's heavy and the stand that comes with it does not fill me with confidence. It doesn't literally tip over on the two little legs, but I'm wall mounting it asap (hiring someone; way too risky alone or a non-tradie friend). I would literally lock it away if I had kids or pets running around until I could wall mount it.
            - It has a weird quirk of zooming in slightly (about 1cm shaved off all edges) when it decides you're streaming video (only happens with me using shudder.com). Not sure what that's about but it's fixable manually.
            - It's max 60fps; don't get this for 144Hz or higher gaming if that's your jam.

Mystery specifications I have determined through trial and error.
            - All 3 HDMI ports are 2.0 or higher. I'm currently running my PC through my AVR to the TV, and it's working perfectly with HDR on at 4k 60fps.
            - Note that you'll have to be using 2.0 or higher HDMI cables, and manually turn on 'enhanced HDMI' on the TV (super easy) and possible with your AVR (I had to with my STR-DH790).

I'm honestly really happy with it at this stage. But, note that I've never had an OLED or QLED so may not know what I'm missing.

  • Cool, Teac still exist. They were huge when I was young, most people had a Teac stereo or TV.

    • most likely just a generic tv with a Teac badge , not that Teac is a sign of quality just that its a known brand

  • if it was 1000 id get it

I pulled the trigger as I have been looking for a giant affordable TV for the home theatre lounge for ages. I agree waiting for Black Friday was tempting though.

The lack of reviews worries me - I can't even find anything on google or duckduckgo reviewing an 82" panel that could be the same component. I think it does have HDR based on the manual - https://www.teac.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IM-LE82A5… - though, so how bad can it be? (cue ominous music)

Like @dmbminaret linked, the productreview.com.au stuff is all a bit dire for the A5 TEAC series, but there's nothing explicit on the larger ones - I'm just hoping they have halfway decent panels. I'm absolutely unstressed about trash software / bad reception / the wireless failing since it's just a big dumb display screen for my purposes. I'll eat my words when it turns out to have a 3 minute startup time but crossing fingers for now.

I'll report back here about the quality of this mystery box once I try it! Thanks OP!

    • the biggest concern you should have is the level of blacks you would achieve especially for a home theatre

Just keep your backlights down as much as you can when you have your lights off

      • Also, depending how close you're sitting, how washed out the colours get at the edges due to the maximum viewing angle.

    • I'm very tempted too. Worried if I wait for black friday it will be sold out and no better offer. I was going for a 75" but with this at roughly same price as kogan 75" it's very tempting.

  • Could easily offset delivery cost by selling Chromecast ultra.

Is anyone buying them with the new CC with GTV now?

    • +1

Surely someone will buy it for $50

  • Has anyone checked out with unidays or studentbeans? I tried twice and catch have cancelled the order both times.

    • Edit: Nevermind, did it with afterpay and went through.

  • Linsar 82" now on sale at $1699 (maybe less if you can get gift cards at a discount):
