Animal sound near home

Saw someone posting about identifying an animal, thought I'll give that a try too:

(Sound only)
I'm in NSW. I hear this sound coming from some bush / tree area near my place. Didn't manage to find out where exactly it could be hiding. It makes this sound almost every day, always from pretty much the same spot. I think only during day time. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter.
What could it be? Hoping it's not something I need to worry about.
Thanks all!

    Cane toad

    • In NSW? 😞

      • They’re in far northern nsw and and marginally further south along the coast but shouldn’t be anywhere near Sydney.

Been in Sydney for 10+ years

          • @Stewardo: Dang, that shows how long it’s been since I did my invasive species training, they weren’t predicted to hit Sydney until 2025 if memory serves correct. I shouldn’t be surprised though as when I did my first bout of training wild dogs weren’t supposed to be anywhere near as bad as they currently are.

@mapax: Wild dogs may be bad, but we're predicting mass extinctions of Aussie wildlife thanks to feral cats. I think Australia currently has the highest number in the world. They're basically a plague, on the level of (or worse) foxes, rabbits, cane toads.

              • @Kangal: Cats seem to be on par with what was expected, shockingly bad… One of the places I go is ~100km from the nearest town and ~10km from the nearest house and we got a total of 19 cats last year, with covid and no one pressuring the cats this year I’m expecting them to be really bad next year.

    • Probably a toad crusin' for some lady toads.

Get the frogID app. Record it and it'll identify it for you. Great for kids

    • Thanks! Didn't even know there's such an app.

  • Cane toad. Whack it!

Well well well you learn something new everyday.
Didn't even come to my mind that it's a frog/toad. I was imagining things like snakes or lizard, or as John suggested, demogorgon.
I used the FrogID app catear mentioned and it gave me 8-18 matching species, and none of them is a cane toad. So I might be safe for now.

    • was imagining things like snakes or lizard

      Tell me you're not serious…

      • heh I was half serious I guess. We have seen a few blue tongue skink around here so I was expecting something close to that family.

  • Koala?
Maybe not but they make wicked noises similar

  • Possum

    • Possums sound more demonic than that. I can only just imagine what the settlers thought when they first heard them! lol

    • If we haven't got possums here before then I might have considered that too. We had a pair of possums living in our roof once. They sounded different, and also they usually wander around and make noises when it was dark.
