Where to Buy a PC Build without RAM, Graphics Card, Wi-Fi Card

I am looking to get a new PC.

However, I already recently upgraded my RAM and WiFi card on my current PC.
My current graphics card is already fit for purpose. I just want to put these into my new PC myself.

All the sites I've tried seem to require you to pick RAM for example and don't let you leave that off in their custom PC builders.
I understand they probably do this because they want to test the system works before shipping it out.

Is there anywhere that just lets you pick what you want?

I guess building it myself is an option but I am not too confident with running cables and stuff.

This is my current PC (excluding the ram and wifi card which have been upgraded.)

It should suit my needs which is only uni work - but for some reason its really laggy.

E.g. typing in chrome, theres a significant delay between when I finish typing and when all the letters finish being entered.
E.g. dragging windows - its not smooth its really jittery. After I stop moving my mouse the window continues to finish moving.

I have also noticed some sort of clicking sound from the computer but can't seem to pinpoint where its from. My ears points to the PSU but I am not sure.

  • Have you thought about selling the ram ?

    • Maybe that's the best option. Thanks!

  • You could talk to Luke at Techfast. He might be able to sort something out for you.

but for some reason its really laggy.

    No, not PSU.

My nose points to your software running in the background that's hogging the CPU utilisation.

      This is what I thought!

But my cpu always at 5 to 40 % utilisation (even while the issue is occurring)

And system idle process is my main process at around 98.

Sorry. Please let me clarify. I think the clicking sound is coming from the PSU.

System Idle process CPU usage indicates the CPU that is not being utilised by any other process. In other words, the higher the better really.

PC looks decent, have you tried a fresh install of windows?

    • I'll try this now and report back. Thanks :)

  • Check your USB devices. I've found issues where USB interference seems to be delaying typing and mouse movements.

    • Thanks! Im not sure how to check it except try different ports and that seems to not fix it.

      • It's more about removing a potentially interfering/noisy device from your USB circuit. Try running with just KB and Mouse connected and see if issues still occur. Then if possible try a different KB and mouse.

An i7 6700 shouldn't have problems keeping up with typing words or dragging windows around. It's probably a software issue.

Does it happen specifically on a certain application? I have something similar on my computer where dragging is jittery, but it happens specifically on Microsoft applications (word, excel etc). I recall reading up on it, and hearing that it was an incompatibility issue with Microsoft apps and polling frequency on some gaming mouses. It never bothered me enough to try and tinker with it though. It might be worth a read if it only happens with Microsoft apps

Sometimes having dual monitors with mismatched refresh rates might also cause some weird jittering issues

    • Thanks for the reply.

Strangely enough. The typing issue happens in chrome (severe) and firefox (pretty bad too).
On IceDragon (which is like a firefox clone I believe), it does NOT occur.

Dragging is pretty much accross the board and issue. But not ALWAYS occuring.

The chrome thing however IS always occuring.

  • Is the system overheating? have you checked the temperatures?

  • Open a CMD window as admin and type SFC /scannow
This will do a Windows Integrity check to make sure there are no corrupted files
Check your Event Viewer, System logs to see if there are any errors that keep occurring
Boot the system into Safe mode, or boot using Diagnostic startup under msconfig, and see if the issue still occurs

    • Thanks

      Just did that:

"Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Regarding event viewer: heaps of stuff actually

      Main one:

      Others:

    WELL WELL WELL….

    Would you look at that.

Currently typing on chrome LAG FREE.

Haven't been able to do this in a year! This is actually amazing.

Thank you everyone for the different suggestions and help.

Can't believe I almost spent 1-2k $ on a new PC when all I needed was a windows reinstall!
