If You Like It Then You Should Have Put a Ring on It. - Sub $300 Ryzen 5 3600

"Wait for the next generation", they said
"Prices will go down", they said…

Looking at how the Ryzen 5 3600 is still a solid CPU and there were multiple deals around the $250-$280 mark over the last 6 months, I really should have pulled the trigger when I had the chance.

Now I am CPU-less, and just an unhappy pappy.

I can only hope that there's a good 3600 deal coming soon for Black Friday…

P.S This isn't really a rant, but more of a self-reflection piece to myself(and to anyone who is in a similar situation :P), and a reminder that prices for these things don't drop as soon as new gens come out…

  • I thought Ryzen 5's were only released last week?

  • How would 3600x pair with a 3080 at 1440p?

    • Amazingly but the cpu could be a bottleneck for the best gpu available rn. Consider a Ryzen 5 5600x if you want a budget cpu, you’re guaranteed to get better performance

I already have a build with a 3600x and 2080S. I'd like to get a new GPU and replace it myself (this will be hard enough for me let alone also replacing a CPU haha)

        • +1

Changing your gpu will be very easy, can take less than 5 minutes. Where as changing cpu is definitely much more tedious, can take up to an hour!

  • I am in the same boat. But do not expect too much because the price of 3600 will not drop sub $270 any time soon. Even next year when amd release 5600.

They said the 5600 will price around $us 220 but who know how much it will be in AU

Maybe 5600 is the better choice ?

    • Maybe, but for tax purposes, I was trying to keep parts under $300, and the 3600 was one of the best sub $300 CPUs out there

      • hi derkyft. Out of curiosity….can you explain what do you mean by tax purposes? how does having sub $300 parts matter? Thank you

  • Yep, still waiting for a 3600/x/xt deal. Used prices are close to new so no luck there either

    • Right? and I just can't bring myself to buying a used CPU

    • +3

@derkyft I purchased a brand new still sealed and untouched 3600xt for $240 from facebook marketplace with invoice and everything 2 days ago. Have faith my friend! You will find something affordable!

      • Thank you my friend

      • I always have problem with facebook market to find a good deal. It is either gone too quick or price too high.
How would you know the warranty and such can be tranferable ?

        • +1

Yes thats the thing about facebook marketplace. Gotta be very quick with offers or someone else will snatch your bargain haha!

Its from amazon invoice. I assume it will be transferrable using serial number on the box.
I did the same with my motherboard, didnt even need receipt for warranty i just used serial number!

@Toffcuz: Thank you for the advise :) I shall continue the search :D

  • Surely it will go down during BF/CM.

If that doesn't drop it, I'd say end of Jan? Around the time of the rumored 5600, which could potentially put price pressure on 3600.

    • I hope so…

I really don't want to start another thread in December saying

"Surely it will go down during BF/CM" they said
"If that doesn't drop it, I'd say end of Jan" they said… XD

        • Thanks mate! too bad it got ozbargained by the time I got home

          • @derkyft: If you have ShopBack 12% off every category from 5-6pm AEDT today @ Amazon AU.
You could pick up one up sub $300 with that.
Even better if you have Zip and something to give you Amazon Gift Card discounts to use in purchase (e.g. Suncorp Benefits).

  • Just what happens when you wait around for cheaper prices at times. It is what it is.
