Kirkland French Vodka 1.75L - $89.99 @ Costco (Membership Required)

80

$10 off Kirkland French Vodka. This is widely believed to be made by Grey Goose. Google 'Kirkland Vodka Grey Goose' and a lot of theories/taste tests. Either way, it's good quality stuff.

  • Great find!

  • If it's not from the Russian district of France, it's only sparkling moonshine.

  • +1

    Equivalent of $35.99 per 700mL

  • Dunno why anyone would buy french vodka. Not particularly well known for vodka. Or beers. Except if you're a tourist.

  • "This is widely believed to be made by Grey Goose" - Fake news

    • If people who work in the industry are fooled, then it speaks to the taste at the very least.

The question I would ask them is, does Bacardi, or any business associated in any way with Bacardi or GG or any of their subsidiaries, play a role in the production of Kirklands. The water used is from the same region as GG. Thats interesting for a product that is said to be in no other way, associated with France. As Vodka is not aged in oak, nor aged at all, it could be shipped in 400 meter long tankers.

Read that article as if GG are hiding its actually a subsidiary or partner of GG that makes it, and see if the denial is so strong.

      • I read it that way as I assumed that Bacardi would hardly want to say that you can buy their product for much cheaper from a competitor. It's possible that Bacardi doesn't control the entire supply chain and that at some point in the chain it finds its way to Costco and undergoes further production (the article mentioned something about multiple filtering in the Costco product).

        Two points:
        (1) at the very least, it's not accurate to say it's made by or a rebranded version of Grey Goose
        (2) vodka, in my view, it usually either terrible or decent. It's basically water and ethanol plus any contaminants from the production process, good or bad. So, as long as this Costco variant crosses the quality threshold and hits 'decent' territory, it's not that important to me if it came, partly or fully, from Grey Goose or some other company. I doubt most people, even connoisseurs, would be able to tell the difference in a blind test.

        • Yep same. Vodka is either good, or rubbish. Upmarket Vodka is selling ice to Eskimos.
